Where to buy a new turbo???

A few years ago I needed a new turbo (see loss of power threads). The dealer said if I recall correctly £2200 for a new and fitted turbo with the rider that it if did not fix the car, I would have to still pay for the turbo!! I declined this kind offer and went to my local independent LR garage...

TD4 Loss of Power at 70mph (3000 revs)

Well I would go and change the depression filter thing. It only costs (I think ) about £40/£50 to do and it worked for me. If you follow the thread on "Freelander loss of power at 70mph" you will see what happened to me and my car has been fine since. My only worry for you is that maybe all the...

TD4 Loss of Power at 70mph (3000 revs)

I have been there. Had the turbo changed, still same problem. Change the cam shaft breather filter first and then try it before forking out for a new turbo. More info on loss of power threads elsewhere on this site. Regards Merlinghnd

    re loss of power

I think so and seems to make sense. I had the blocked filter and had a new turbo eventually as the old one was seized solid. If the filter had been a service item earlier or more widely known about I would have saved a bucket load of money and grief.

    2002 td4 wont rev

Maybe you have pressure building up inside the engine, only a guess, rev it up with the dipstick is out if you are brave!!

    2002 td4 wont rev

I think you should replace the rocker cover breather filter which is mentioned on these threads. Maybe your engine is not breathing and pressure is building up. If you look at various threads you will see what it is all about. A messy test is take the dip stick out, turn the engine on and see if...

    Water in Boot Storage Box

I had this but did not want to go to the hassle of replacing the rear seal. I found the water getting in somewhere on the left side. I mopped up most of the water from the boot box and then went around with the lid open where it eventually dried out. I have lifted the boot carpet up slightly...

Difficult Gear Change 2002 TD4 Manual

To bring this thread to a close, a faulty Master cyinder was the culprit. Replaced and now back to normal. Thanks to those who read this thread and happy motoring Merlinghnd

    Too much lag?

This might be an indication that the rocker breather cover filter needs replacing as it is gunged up and causing all the crap to go through your hoses/turbo etc etc

Difficult Gear Change 2002 TD4 Manual

Hello, Very interesting how this thread has developed!! I took the car to my local independent (very nice place and a pleasure to do business with). Went for a test drive and they reckon it is the hydraulics on the clutch. Probably a small leak. Going back next week to have the hydraulics...

Difficult Gear Change 2002 TD4 Manual

Hello Everyone, I am having difficulty, especially when cold to select gears on my 2002 TD4 manual gear box. No grating, just very stiff when pushing the gear stick into gear. Clutch doesn't feel soggy and it gets better but not perfect after a good run. Any thoughts from the experts out there...

    Td4 rocker cover breather

Thanks for that. I just wish it had been a servicable item before and then I would have been a lot more happy with my car and have a lot less grief and more money in my pocket.

    Td4 rocker cover breather

Hello , I have had this problem (see loss of power at 70 sagas). I was wondering on a normal properly breathing engine, should any oil come out of the dip stick hole? Should TD4 owners try this test at home to give some indication of an underlying problem before it gets too far. What do you...

    New Freelander

Hello Everyone, I work in Southampton Docks and saw a batch of new Freelanders today for export. Looked quite nice. Something between an old Freelander and Disco. When will first hear about one here and when will we start getting first problems starting?? I fancy one but after my problems...

    A/c Yourself

I bought a refill and a seperate guage from Halfords., I think a 100gms can of refrigerant and lubricant cost £17 although the guage I bought seperately for £19. I was too worried about putting too much in so I bought a proper guage. If I can do it, anyone can, the instructions plus this...

    Won't Start

Could be the starter motor. Unlock and keep trying with the key without using the fob. My starter motor went like that but got worse and worse ver quickly. Guy came out and gave it a sharp tap with a large hammer and metal bar on a couple of points and it worked fine. Must have shifted some dirt...

    MAF Sensor?

Hello, I had a MAF "problem" which seems to be the first thing which is mentioned if the power is down. The dealer put a new one in which might have made a slight differance until other things started to go wrong. I ended up at an independant LR garage and very good they were too. They kept...

    turbo noise

Hello Mondo, I was told that if your hose is collapsing, it will collapse, result in loss of power with the need to stop completely where the hose will reform. I guess if you are getting mess on the outside you must have a hole/split. However another thought is how smoky is your engine and...

    turbo noise

Hello, Look at the right angle one on the battery side that you can see with the cover on. Mine split length ways at the back. I was told it was acommon one to go. Look for or feel for any oily deposits/mess as asign Merlinghnd
