Freelander 1 Freelander 2000 Kalahari 3 door diesel TD4 automatic red SOLD

Sadly the time has come to part with my X reg 2000 Freelander . I am not sure what she is worth though I spent a few hundred recently on the VCU. She has lots of service history and has been regularly serviced. I personally think she is in nice condition in Alveston red and the interior is...

    Is diesel dead

Been reading a lot about this in the press. I must admit when diesel is more costly I wonder about the reasons for having diesel. My reason for having diesel was more to do with longevity especially in 4x4s where the vehicle can last for years. Second was the better economy but if pump price...

    Rubber gloves pack 100

So I use all types of rubber gloves from marigolds (way too costly) to Morrisons own. I have some good quality black ones as well etc. for those heavier jobs. However, I have been using one of those 100 packs of disposables for jobs like electrical work or cleaning from the plastic fantastic...

WOT - no grab handle...........not any more

I was amazed that my FL1 Kalahari has no grab handle whatsoever. Not even one for the passenger to hold while I go inverted. Even worse it has no tapping etc. anywhere to fit one. It meant working from scratch. So here is what I did. First I bought one of these for a few pence. I decided on a...

    Stained bumper

So what does anyone recommend to stop this sort of staining other than hard graft?:( I think the garage tarted up the bumpers and now the rain is removing it.

    Complete auto oil change FL1

I have been reading possibly wrongly that changing the auto oil all in one go can cause problems. I was thinking of sucking it all out with my air fluid extractor. Should I? I must admit I generally hate changing auto oil but this one's rigmarole takes the biscuit.

    Speaker grilles

So when I got the motor according to SWOM it looked like someone had been sick on the speaker grilles. So I decided to give them a seeing to. What a game getting the door handle inserts off to get to the screws. I very nearly didn't put them back on again. So card(s) off - muck and bullets...

Radio - not your usual approach

Here we go. Did a search but most results were for fancy fitments. I have a radio floating about which I want to put into the FL. I doubt I will find an ISO for this plug but I could be wrong. So it looks like a job for the snips unless anybody has any other ideas. I can possibly check the...

    Access through the firewall

I need to run a wire (or three) from the battery in the engine bay to the cab. Is there a ready made access hole in the three door TD4?

Freelander 1 Further thanks ...............to Nodge68

I want also to express my gratitude to John - Nodge68 - for sharing his expertise with me without which I expect I might not have been remotely interested in tackling this job.

    Grab handle

Did a search but didn't really find a solution. I want a grab handle above the door in my 3 door FL1. I want it so I can lever my decrepit self out of/into the mota. I found this but it doesn't resolve the issue. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/roof-grab-handle.265534/#post-3204099

    My trip to Bell Engineering

Took my VCU with front prop still attached to Bell engineering the other day. Worcester is not too far away but really it is not Worcester as such. It was a 3 hour round trip and all was fine (apart from a stupid roadworks diversion close to them which caused tremendous queues) until I got to...

    Praise to Bell engineering

Just a quick line to thank Austin and his dad who went out of their way to sort me out when I took my old VCU to them. I was unable to separate the front prop from the VCU and as it happened they couldn't and believe me when I say they really tried. Apparently it was going to have to be cut...

    Clock posts

I am trying to find any posts that will tell me if I can use a 4 pin clock in place of my knackered 8 pin. The bars are nearly all gone. It's a 2000 3 door Freelander. I found a post that talks of snipping wires but no more than a mention.

    Concertina gaiter on front propshaft

Noticed there is a concertina gaiter on my FL's propshaft (FL 1 2001). Looks newish too. I was expecting to see a plain one. Were they changed over the years? I ask because it may indicate work has been done within the last 16 years.

    Parts list

Is there a parts list for FL 1 on the site please - mine is a 2001 Kalahari 3 door TD4 Auto. I need to get a new catch for a window and because I don't know how to describe it I can't find it anywhere despite Googling for ages. A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks

    Busy bees

It looks like bees tried to make a home in a headlight. I thought of using a vacuum and a pipe through the bulb housing but is there a better way?

About buying a crock of ......................

Don't like to use ****. Just read the thread on it. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/buying-a-crock-of-or-if-you-already-have.76002/ Let me begin by saying I love Mitsubishi. I wish I had seen this thread two years ago when I got a Pinin - it was a true lemon. I could list all of the...

Freelander 1 The air filter housing on Diesel 2001

Getting round to changing the air filter soon for my first time and I have seen youtube vids of it - very scary. Is there a preferred tool or approach to the two allen bolts that are at the back by the firewall?

    Mudflaps

I know most want mudflaps but I want to remove mine. I have no manual etc. yet and would love to know if the things holding the flaps on are screws or something unusual. They look like slotted screws but as this is 15 years old they won't budge. Any guidance would be appreciated.
