Cleaning rusty bits on your series using electrolysis

I asked - in a thread a few weeks back - and thanks.

    series as a daily??

bear in mind that a proper series 2/2a (ie pre-'71) has the advantage of free historic road tax, but will not have things like syncromesh on all the gears, you can't just flash the headlights at will (well, until you get acquanted with turning the lights on, stamping twice on the high/low button...

    series as a daily??

get a disco and pretend it's a defender. travel in comfort and it's almost the same mechanicals underneath. when it dies it liberates a really good engine for the next project. Series are great but they're very agricultural, and by the time you've modded one enough to make it a good...

    How much?!

purely on the basis that a new galv chassis is the best part of a grand by the time it's sat on your drive, plus a decent TDi engine is maybe £3-400, plus a half decent landy to put the chassis/engine on is at maybe £600 ... I guess about £2000 would be the very bottom line.

spare wheel no fitting on the rear door mount

that's not the usual towball arrangement we see in the UK. the norm here is to have a flat drop plate attached to the X-member with a towing ball attached lower down, which gives more clearance.

    Huge hydraulic winch removal

haven't seen guidelines for removal of an overdrive but to quote Mr Haynes it's just the reverse of installation. removing the hydraulic pump will be very similar to removing the overdrive. thoroughly recommend getting or making the special tool. installation of an overdrive is here...

    A bit pricey?

I think after the listing ends you get to chuckle at what the offers were.

    New Battery Needed

get yerself down the nearest agricultural merchant and get a 643 or 644 (I think) which are just about the biggest tractor battery that will fit in a series tray. the difference between 643 and 644 is the polarity/layout of the terminals. disappointingly batteries have gone up a heap in the...

    A bit pricey?

yikes - that's dreadful! what's the deal with the paint over the rear windows - or is it meant to be like that?

    Dashboard help!

If it's any consolation fella, it's still a lot of money when you're 40. Good luck with the Landy!

    Series 2a - Chassis replacement

Everything can indeed be made to fit a 3 chassis, hence Landy only needed to stock one part, hence they probably share the same part number. But put it another way ... if you're going to buy a new standard chassis, there's got to be at least a 90% chance it'll come from Marlsand or Richards...

    Series 2a - Chassis replacement

I'd get the right 2a chassis. If you use a series 3 chassis ... handbrake pivot, front brake hoses, front-of-rear-tub mounts may not fit. Your 2a gearbox definitely won't fit and you won't want to take a grinder to a nice new galv one. Both Richards and Marslands will make you the 'right'...

    An 88 for the Mrs.
