Hi all - as per my other threads I am looking for a series III swb.

The spec I am looking at is:
A new diesel conversion (Ford Di / 200tdi)
Galvanised chassis

Anything like interior I can change myself - really I would be looking at a mechanically sound car which needed a bit of cosmetic work.

At the moment the prices of series III are mega for anything that has been done up nicely! Is this there usual price, or is it the snow tax? As when I sold my last series it went for £180 yes the chassis needed abit of welding and a new battery but apart from that is was ok.

For instance:

LAND ROVER 88" - BLACK - 1972 - DIESEL on eBay (end time 31-Dec-10 14:25:30 GMT)

That is basically what I would like once its complete.

So what price am I looking at for a new diesel conversion with a galv'd chassis?

Thanks

purely on the basis that a new galv chassis is the best part of a grand by the time it's sat on your drive, plus a decent TDi engine is maybe £3-400, plus a half decent landy to put the chassis/engine on is at maybe £600 ... I guess about £2000 would be the very bottom line.

The ford di is nothing special, and will devalue the vehicle somewhat.

I think thats a bit expensive, I'd want it all complete ready to go for those readies.

Thanks for the reply guys - I am now looking at a truck cab 88 with a 200tdi engine in it, £1800 doesn't have the galvanised chassis I was looking for but comes kitted out with all the off roading stuff(1 tonne shackles, off road wheels + tyres, winch)! It also has quite abit of body work damage. Do you think thats the right sort of price?

Isn't cheap but nothing is at the mo.....so long as the motor/chassis/bulkhead are good most everything else on a series is easy and cheap enough to replace as and when needed if you like tinkering

Thanks guys - I am currently looking at a few, how much do you honestly think this is worth? 1973 LAND ROVER 88" - 4 CYL GREEN on eBay (end time 27-Jan-11 14:09:48 GMT) Ive asked for some pictures of the bulkhead and chassis to be emailed to me. Would the timing problem be easily fixed or is it a pain in the ar$e? I personally think that with the amount of work required on that SIII compared to what I sold my old one for its worth around £1000-£1200 IF the chassis and bulkhead are good - Is this being over optimistic?

I am looking at two others:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-88...omobiles_UK&hash=item3a61f13640#ht_768wt_1141 Again I have contacted asking for pics of the chassis and bulkhead, I have no idea what this would be worth as its a SII but I assume it would be around £1000 or is this too high / low?

The other I am looking at is for sale on here with a 200tdi conversion chassis + bulkhead are straight but has bodywork damage and is up for £1800 don't know whether this is the right sort of price range - however it does come with 2 sets of wheels + tyres and a winch, the 200tdi concerns me RE: Insurance but I will be checking with the NFU / Adrian Flux and all the others tomorrow how much this would bump the price up. Really its a trade of between higher MPG and a Higher insurance cost.

Any help is very helpful, great forum here guys and one day I hope I will be able to help people like me!

Thanks Storm - The snow tax seems to be playing havok with the landy market at the moment! Good time to sell though!

P.s Sorry for editing just wanted to add the other two in a single post.

The 200 tdi is overpriced and you have to wonder why the geyser is selling it so soon after he's got it, could be legit, could be fecked.
I like the ragtop, might be worth a closer look, triple check the bulkhead if you go.

The soft top is already at £1k with 9 days to run so thats a no go as will be way over my budget.

The pick up on ebay the seller hs emailed me some pics and even as a non-landy person I can see that the bulkhead is shagged also the engine is destroyed.

The reason for sale on the 200Tdi is wanting another classic car - I have seen many pictures of it off roading and looks capable and reliable, I will get some pics of the chassis and bulkhead.

Maybe I should get mine up on ebay.
Either they are all dreamers or the price of landys has gone silly, I know everything is expensive at the mo, but cars arnt, no one has the brass to buy one, they go for peanuts at auctions.
