The really cold weather we've had has finally seen off the battery on my Series 3, I'm having to charge it every day so it will have to go :(.

Anyone any suggestions as to a decent replacement?

Cheers

I'll check what mine is as i'm amazed by it... been using it to test the new 200tdi and all the electrics so it hasn't been charged for about 6 weeks now. Found my TD5 disco was dead the other morning so thought i'd give it a go jumping it off this battery. Started instantly - faster than the TD5 battery on a warm day.

It doesn't look anything special, came with the vehicle and i thought i might need to replace it as it was just driving the petrol engine so didn't think it would cope with the 200tdi... but looks like i'm wrong on that one :)

If it's a petrol almost anything will do - there's no drain when the ignition is off and the engines aren't too hard to turn. I once left mine for nearly six months and it started first prod - It was the cheapest Halfords battery I could buy with round terminals that would sit on the tray. Diesels, however.....

get yerself down the nearest agricultural merchant and get a 643 or 644 (I think) which are just about the biggest tractor battery that will fit in a series tray. the difference between 643 and 644 is the polarity/layout of the terminals.

disappointingly batteries have gone up a heap in the last couple of years - probably due to the price of lead - I bought them about 5 years ago for £35 but more recently I haven't seen ones much cheaper than about £60.

I went down to my local battery specialists today and they recommended a lucas 68AH battery. It was £68 and comes with a three year guarantee. I don't think thats to bad, alot of batteries I had priced up were £100+ :p Hopefully it should be trouble free :)
