What tyres are best in snow.

Plane and simple nokian Hakkapililata's have won all the scandinavian tyre tests for years, they are easily the best on snow, and preferably with spikes! Many countrys that have snow in winter make it the law to have winter tyres, maybe the uk will adopt the same strategy now the new ice age is...

heres a good one for you...

On Sunday night on my drive home from the ski area (185km snow and ice mixed on roads) I crashed my disco, I slid off the road backwards and flipped in the ditch. It was reletively painless though the car got some major panal damage and really bent in the b post so door doesnt shut properly...

    ...does anyone know...

Hi I have a couple of questions. Thinking of running stiffer suspension. Does anyone know the stiffness of the police spec springs? Also does anyone know if you can add a ARB to a 92 200tdi disco. I have seen arbs on later disco's. Cheers Jim

I cant beleive I'm saying this....

I have owned a string of jap 4wds which to be honest have all been great. I've now got a disco 1, I love the simplicity I have not owned a vehicle this mechanically straight forward for years, so working on it is a dream. Off road I am amazed how well the vehicle copes even with the skateboards...

    Probabaly a stupid question

As the handbrake is on the transmission is it good practice to use this in the same way as with a more contempory handbrake (brake mechanism at wheel) eg: for turns or for emergency braking. Or will this if overused adversely strain or damage the system. Thanks Jim

    modified final drive

I'm surpised no one has tried this or is it not possible to use a defender transfer on a disco? Is there any other soloutions to change the gearing?

    modified final drive

Hi I've fitted slightly bigger tyres on my Disco, now it has 245/75-16. Not huge at all, at only 30.5 but has definately effected the onroad handling massively. At slow speeds off road it is diffinately better, with some clearance gained. However on road it is noticeably more sluggish, with a...

    need arch extensions/flares

Hi It looks like I need to cut my arches. I have rescently upgraded to 245/75/16 rubber, and it now catches on the back of the arches. This itself did not bother me mutch untill I noticed it is bending the rear quarter panel/sil bits in woods. If I dont cut them out soon they will damage more of...

dead heater rad on my 92 disco?

Hi all wondering if anyone has come accross this. I was fitting a new stereo today and noticed it was wet at the bottom of the stereo well, I investigated further and found drips near the foot heater vent, difficult to identify 100% if its just another bulkhead leak or from the matrix itself. It...

    cutting arches

Hi Guys looking for a quick tip. I'm going to go ahead and cut the arches out of my disco 1. Their seams to be many custom aftermarket plastic/rubber arches on the market, to choose from. Do they flex to the new shape of the arch. Or should you purchases arches for a certain size cut? I intend...

    dodgy alternator

chainging the regulater sounds like a good idea. The parts that you need are easy to source? I would just get a used one from a scrappy but LR's are rare here in Norway so finding used bits is tough. A part x Lucas unit from the cheapest parts supplier is a wopping 280 quid plus tax! I have...

    dodgy alternator

Ok so I've just got back from a trip to england my LR's been stationery for 10 days started up first time, but the battery light doesnt go out. So I pop the hood and get the volt meter on the battery and alternater and see that its only puting out 11.7 volts, so time for a new alternator. I was...

few more beans could be usefull...

Thanks for the tips. i'm pretty sure the motor is running fine. I've given it a full service and it will yes easily do 60-70 on the motorway, probably hit 85-90 top end. And I dont nead to use low range on tarmac, unless its very steep...but I just notice I have to use low range more when I'm...

few more beans could be usefull...

Love my disco, very capable and robust offroad. However if there was one thing I would like to improve it would be the engine power and then drive chain back lash/general slop. I intend eventually to put a 300tdi trany in to help on that side, but does anyone have any good soloutions to try and...

    is the bonnet strong enough....

I noticed you can get cheaquar plate for the bonnet on rebal 4x4. Has anyone used this is the bonnet stiff enough to stand on, like on a defender. I would like the option as it makes loading the roof rack easier. Cheers Jim

    ..look I'm in stealth mode

Ok so todays wonderfull disco problem, just got home from an interesting drive. I had to drive the last 2 hours with no lights. Being that its nearly winter and I live in Norway it was some what sporting to say the least. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas where I should look to find the...

    DISCO 2 or PRADO (ouch)

Hi I have owned both cars and allthough this is a landrover forum, I would honestly say the prado is better for you. Having said this the 200tdi/or 300tdi can be reliable cars too and may well be more capable offroad straight out the box then the prado. The td5 is a very good car but I would say...
