Hi I've fitted slightly bigger tyres on my Disco, now it has 245/75-16. Not huge at all, at only 30.5 but has definately effected the onroad handling massively. At slow speeds off road it is diffinately better, with some clearance gained. However on road it is noticeably more sluggish, with a slower excelleration. I was thinking of putting even larger tyres on but I can only imagine this will really slow the disco down. So I was wondering has anyone changed the final drive, I was thinking about perhaps installing a defender transfer as they have 32" as standard, has any one done this? What is the excelleration like and top speed then? Cheers Jim

All lt230 transfer boxes on disco or defender, military spec lowest look at ashcrofts for other options

yes, it is very common for big tyred discos to take defender transfer cases, and all defenders to take disco transfer cases to cure high revving on the motorway.

i have 33" tyres and it drives rather poorly in 5th gear! :D

also, if you swap transfer case, only high ratio is changed, low ratio is same on all lt230.

best bet is to change diff ring and pinion, then ratio is changed in both high and low box.

as above, ashcroft do a ful set of options for ring and pinion, including a reverse cut front R+P for extra strength.

i really wanted to fit low ratio R+Ps when fitting my diffs, but couldnt afford the large wedge.

cheers :)
