    Rover diff teeth wear

Hi all, I'm planning to rebuild a front diff off a Defender, but fit a LS Ashcroft's core in. Previous owner thought it would be a good idea to pack the axle with grease (or maybe it's just ancient oil?) and as a result, three bearings were in bits. The casing and crownwheel look good, but I...

P38A Air suspension collapsed, alternator not working properly

Tomorrow I'll let the car running with the door open for 15+ minutes to see if it builds up enough pressure. At the last workshop I worked at the compressor must have worked at around 8 bar, but if I tried, I could stop the airflow with a finger at the tip of the airline. How hard is our EAS...

P38A Air suspension collapsed, alternator not working properly

Compressor is running, but if I try hard enough I am more or less able to stop the airflow. There are currently no faults on Nanocom for the EAS.

P38A Air suspension collapsed, alternator not working properly

Hi all, The air suspension dropped completely this morning on this P38 2.5dse auto from 1999. I've been trying all the tricks in the nanocom, but I can't get it to raise back. Compressor is on, according to nanocom. I just accidentally noticed that the battery voltage is 13V at best with the...

    Series Salisbury axle

Oh okay so they are not at all compatible then. Thanks for the info!

    Series Salisbury axle

How much welding would it take to fit a Salisbury axle onto a Discovery 1 and are the brackets needed readily available or do they need fabricating at home? When did the diff ratio change to 1:3.54? Can the ring and pinion be bought new in the correct ratio or do they need sourcing from a...

Disco 2 Torque converter won't go in all the way

A bit of an update. I looked it up in rave, no mention of the depth the TC should be sitting at. From ashcrofts they did not say. I found a list online with different serial numbers for ZF4HP22 gearboxes and the depth of the TC. My number was not on the list, however the current depth - 83mm -...

    Alloy wheel nuts

That's odd, I have two kinds, one that is flat, and one that is conical. The flat ones won't even catch on the thread. The conical ones do, but I don't feel like they are right. I am subjective I must admit, as it isn't my car or my rims, just helping a family member and I don't know for sure...

Disco 2 Torque converter won't go in all the way

Yes, I meant flywheel, but I wasn't sure they also call it that for automatic vehicles!

Disco 2 Torque converter won't go in all the way

Oh my lord, I might have to pull the gearbox out... although it would be much easier for me to pull the engine back out since everything is still disconnected and double check that way. I will have to check in the manual what the distance between the TC face and front of the bellhousing should...

Disco 2 Torque converter won't go in all the way

I wasn't aware I had to do anything to keep it in place, seeing as the gearbox leans upwards and it didn't go anywhere! Both engines are the same, 10p and looked very similar. I can't take measurements however as I took the flexplate and crownwheel from the old one to fit onto this new one. I...

D2 TD5 owner here, some help needed

Old thread, but following up with findings, just in case someone with the same problem comes across this. Centre diff in the transfer case is knackered. I assume it happened whilst stuck in a field, I remember one wheel was in the air, spinning on its own and TC not kicking in. I watched a...

Disco 2 Torque converter won't go in all the way

Hi there, I am in the process of fitting another engine in my D2 (1999 Td5) and it is now resting on the engine mounts, bolt holes at the back aligned with the ones on the bell housing, however the engine and the gearbox are about 1cm apart. Trying to bring them closer by slowly doing in the...

    Alloy wheel nuts

Hi, Does anyone know what sort of wheel nuts would fit this kind of rim? The regular alloy rim nuts seem a bit wide. Would these fit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165049835364 . They do seem a bit narrower. The car in question is 2002 Td5 110. Many thanks, Matt

    Disco 2 Td5 glowplug wiring

Many thanks for the suggestions, I will see if I can source one of those from a local scrapyard.

    Disco 2 Td5 glowplug wiring

Hi, The original connections are very brittle and fragile, as we all know. I was watching this video the other day and the man is talking about a replacement rail from VW group that also fits on the Td5, but I don't know where I could source one from. I don't know what model of car I should be...

Disco 2 Can a TD5 engine be removed out of the engine bay without the cylinder head on?

It came out a few days ago, now waiting for the new one. I couldn't find a proper bolt to fit the thread of the head bolts at the local shop, so I had to use the head bolts with many many nuts stacked on them. To clear the engine bay, both front wheels had to come off and the axle had to be...

Disco 2 Can a TD5 engine be removed out of the engine bay without the cylinder head on?

Thanks, I just thought of the head bolts last night. I will do it this way. The engine crane also has another thing - don't know what it's called - that lets you adjust the inclination of whatever you are lifting by moving the centre of gravity.

Disco 2 Can a TD5 engine be removed out of the engine bay without the cylinder head on?

I I do, but I'd prefer to bolt the chains so it doesn't slip.
