Guys,
In last few days my windoze laptop updated to the latest May 2020 update from Microsoft. I'm now seeing application crashes when launching two different RAVE ISO. So if you haven't updated yet, but use RAVE a lot, then wait before updating. I'm searching for a solution & will post it when I find one.

My Macbook version still works ok.

Pete

If you still have version 1909 or earlier, then RAVE will work. Version 2004 breaks RAVE startup.

Go to Settings, then System, and scroll to bottom. Then click "About" & scroll down again.

Not sure what the problem is;)
But works for me:)

F*cked my Start menu and a load of other stuff so I rolled it back and told it not to update for a month. Seems like it isn't just me so presumably they're working on a fix.

In the meantime I have gone over to Linux OpenSUSE. Refreshing simple and not at all intrusive.

@marjon yes the "one file" PDF version works on any Acrobat version, but doesn't have clickable indexes.

@Tenebreaux yes the problem does appear to be compatibility with Acrobat 4 that RAVe uses. I tried all sorts of compatibility modes in Windoze but no luck so far.

@Grrrrrr I might try the RAVE All Models version that I use on my MacBook with Linux. This one works with latest Acrobat on Mac, but in windows it gets repeated security & permissions errors because each section tries to open a different PDF file.

If I have time later I'll try swapping out the reader folder in RAVE with the latest one. I'm not sure how the exe calls on reader but it might work.

The version I have on Windows 10 was the version I installed on XP. I just copied the full folder across from the old C:\Program Files folder. Still uses the very old version of Adobe that installed along with it.

Download classic shell there is one for start up menu You need to run it every time you start your computer but sorts out the problem. Works well for me

Did the "compatibility mode" trick just now...RAVE is now all working again. :)
Thanks Ant and others for pointing me to the thread.

Got mine working earlier in the week thanks to Grrrrr and Rubberknees help.
XP compatibility wasn't doing it, but going to 98/Me compatibility in the context menu > Compatibility mode options did it.

Update for "RAVE All Models" version shared on my Google Drive link below.
Note: The fixes above still work for the older versions that use Acrobat-4.

The latest "Acrobat Reader 10" has a feature called "new experience" which causes the All Models version to crash on start up. To fix this turn off the "new experience" like this:

I have 2 versions of RAVE, an early version that covers Freelander, Disco & P38 and the later version that covers Defender, P38 and early L322. I do not know exactly when as I don't use it every day, but a recent update to Win 10 has stopped the early version of RAVE working, luckily the later version still works. They both used to run in Win 98 compatibility mode on Win 10. Win 98 compatibility mode is no longer available since the update, just XP service pack 3, Vista, Win 7 & 8. Luckily, I have old XP systems available if I need to run it.
