RAVE on Win10

Its not that simple as the Rave is an Exe. It is some form of licenced compiled executable from Adobe.

That said, people have made pure/simple/native PDF documents of Rave. I've never used one, I would imagine that a lot of the navigation has been lost and are simply separate documents, or everything merged into 1 big doc.

That is the same fix as @kernowsvenski put far more simply than I did :D
But, after watching the video I had an idea!
@Keith_L - do you have all three RAVE ISO's? and if so, did you change the compatibilities in all of them as he does in the vid?

EDIT: Another thought - is windows giving you the screen asking if you want to make changes etc when you start the .exe (i.e. is it opening as administrator)?
clutching at straws :D
I still think that somehow you are not changing the compatibility of the file you think you are &/or these files are read only or summat loike thaat

Ah yes, of course, its an exe

I also dont know how they navigate around all the pdfs in an extracted version
would be easy if they were all in a modern indexed pdf
I wonder if there is anything to trawl through a big pdf for headings and then automatically index them?

I only have ISO 01 - Discovery II & Freelander '01. I thought I would get that working before I complicated things.
It does ask me if I want to allow RAVE.EXE to make changes, to which I say yes. The circle goes round for a bit and then nothing.
It is remembering the compatibility options I have set:

How about if you double click on the Rave (Discovery II _ Freelander '01)\Acrobat4\Reader\AcroRd32.exe ?
Does it open the Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Reader OK?

Did you try clicking the 'change settings for all users' and changing the compatibility and run as admin settings, in case something is funny there?
EDIT: Actually - since I had previously run the troubleshooter (why I know not) in the 'for all users' settings it was compatibility for XP, which dont work), so praps a possibility?

Have you completely rebooted?
I am not sure about this, but I have fast boot disabled in the BIOS as I have a dual boot Win 10 and Linux on the same lappy
I think this means that windows completely reboots now, rather than doing a halfway housesort of thing to speed up windows boot (like trying to improve the 0-60 time of my old Allegro estate LOL)
Actually it was to try to stop people dual-booting but they failed.
Again - I am not sure here but it might be worth a try
Entering into your BIOS is by pressing a key depending on the computer Manufacturer (on my ASUS it F2 I think) during boot and then just changing the option

Another possible approach ....

Win 10
I have RAVE installed on my Windows 10 (that I never use), and this has loads of other programs (sorry, we must say 'apps' these days :D) installed and is an 'old installation of Windows.
On this Windows 10, when I open RAVE it gives me 7 pop up windows on the trot saying that, 'There was an error opening this document. The path [sometimes it says 'files'] does not exist' which when I click on 'OK' they disappear and after the last one I am good to go.

VM Win 10 in Linux
On my Win 10 inside a Virtual Machine in Linux is a new installation with almost nothing there - I only use it as to write Journal papers I need M$ Office as some co-authors and Journal require it :(
In this instance of Win10, RAVE opens without any of those error pop-ups at all

I have no idea why, nor what the files it cant find are :D

But, perhaps you could try cleaning your registry with CCleaner free version?
I have used it for years with no problems, and it may or may not help (and even speed up your windows a bit)
Its pretty bulletproof, nothing like delving into the registry manually

Another thing is what else from adobe do you have installed on your computer?
I have Adobe Reader DC on the Win10 and nothing from ADOBE on the VM Win 10

And of course, you could follow all those M$ 'helpers' that tell you to run all the neverendingcircularwildgoosechase troubleshooters or to do a completely new installation of win10.
Probably wouldnt work tho! LOL

Click the "Upload a file" button.
You'll then need to click a button in the popup - may be labeled "Browse".
Navigate to and select the image.
It'll then put a thumbnail of the image below the post you're typing and you can click the "Full Image" button next to it to insert it in the post where the cursor is.

It needs to be an image file on your PC - so if its the screen you want to include, you'll need to screen print (Ctrl+PrtScrn for whole screen, Alt+PrtScrn for current window) and paste that into Paint or summat to save it.

Does it open the Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Reader OK? No. I get the 'do you want to allow updates to your system' message but that's is - the same as Rave.exe itself.

Interesting about Windows 10 Pro vs Home. I've never hit a problem before. It would be interesting to see if anyone else has it running on Home Edition?

I would try it - you get the option to save registry anyway and I used it regularly when I was on Windows

You do seem to be getting toward the everything failing end

Yes, I wonder if there is any correlation between RAVE problems and Home / Pro version?
 
I'm about to go on holiday, so this exploration will have to wait until I get back, although if anyone fancies joining me for some gentle green-laning in mid-Wales then we could discuss it further over a cup of tea......
