Hi guy and girls can anyone give me some information I have searched around for a decent remap company to give me some more low down torque now I have seen companies selling ecu’s with remap a on the classed as plug and play would I need to do anything with the bcu the remap company tell me the ecu is unlocked I’m not sure what they mean by that the ecu is a msb which is the same as mine I’m just curious as to what I would need to do to fit one of these any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
 
Hi. My advice is to not fit one of those, you'll need diagnostic tool anyway even if the immobiliser is disabled cos the injector codes must be saved... contact storm, empire or alive tuning (which ever is closer) send your ECU to them and youll get it back remapped without needing a tester cos the injector codes and immobiliser are not affected by the remap
 
I do have a diagnosis tool but it’s only the lynx evo the company is call maztras would this still run without doing anything to the bcu as I’m not fussed about the immobiliser anyway thanks for the reply .
 
I can't tell you as i dont know what they did with the ECU which they name "unlocked", i think the security link is bypassed so the BCU is not involved. What i know is that if the ECU is sold as remapped for all 10Ps it has a generic injector duration map in it which in most cases will raise the EGT too beside the power gain. If you send the ECU to one of those tuners they'll addapt it to your needs with an AFR approach and the result is much better

u have much more information that me does that mean if the bcu is not used it’s not needed and what would happen if I did put that ecu on my discovery would somethings not work? Thanks
 
You kind'a misunderstood what i said, the BCU is connected to the ECM via the security link but if they said the ECM is "unlocked" i think they mean that the BCU will not immobilise it... why dont you ask those tuners if you are up to buy that ECM anyway, ask them if you need or not a diagnostic tool and if they say you dont better steer clear cos if they dont care about injector coding i have an ideea about what ''brilliant'' fuel map they have and how much they care

This is true they stated that the injector codes are set to generic I guess by that it means it will run but not 100% without the proper codes thanks.
 
So the map is also a generic injector duration type which might hurt your engine on a long run due to increased EGT... btw, AFAIK there is no such thing as "generic'' injector codes cos the codes are specific to each injector, it's no setting in the ECM for ''generic'' codes

That did make me wonder what kind of long term damage is that going to cause to my engine I’m just after a reliable map but this company isn’t looking very good is it

i disagree... and this is based on various tests with various fuel maps on my and other vehicles, in some caases the difference is not noticeable in others quite noticeable but saying that it's no difference for me seems exagerated... i even found one which didnt rev above 3000rpm with the wrong codes exactly as described in the WSM

My mate has on in his 90....its converted to td5 using all disco parts, everything except the throttle pedal ....so its a disco as far as the pcm knows.
The original disco pcm was sent away to get remapped and immo removed....more for immo remove as the 90 wouldn't go without a bcm to talk to the pcm. You can no take that PCM and plug it in to any 10p and it starts and drives no problem. Ive seen it and when I did the first thing I though was.....wow that makes it easy to steal stuff.

You think injector correction factors....and thats all they are, correction factors, just to overcome slight manufacturing differences are going to make any difference on 100000 mile injectors being fuelled by a remapped ecu ramming diesel through them like there's no tomorrow ...na I don't think so. I know from years of Ford fixing it makes no difference :)

A td5 can run apparently well with all kind of setups as long as the owner is pleased to drive a bodged up thing and doesnt know how a perfecly running one behaves. If the disco ECM was remapped it means it was remmaped for a defender otherwise the ECT gauge would not work and the ECU memory would be full of current fault codes all the time due to the wastegate modulator open circuit and lack of VSS so as long as the ECM doesnt have the proper fuel map in it for the vehicle it's not so simple that it's good for both Disco or Defender

as about the codes, as i said i made tests and altered codes on purpose to see what happens then drove it and recorded live data logs and there was always a difference... how noticeable depended on the fuel map version and codes as well ... as long as only the injector roughness reading is different means that the engine runs different too while the throttle response isnt the same... you can believe me or not

were those Fords you mentioned fitted with electronic pump injectors like the Td5 ?.. some vehicles have an addaptive strategy for that and dont need coding, not the case for Td5

I knew that the description from the WSM is too cryptic so i made some research as i like things to be clear and my enthusiasm for a well running Td5 is overwhelming.:cool:
It seems that the ECU is not ramming diesel through the injectors no matter what but it's managing the injectors exacty based on that code so for each code the signals sent to the solenoids are diffferent, this theory was confirmed by my live tests as well... i found a document which explains well what's going on http://www.numeralkod.com/cross/EUI.pdf no need to read it all , here's the relevant part(IMO even if the injector is old the original code will be closest to it's "needs" than any other code so for the engine's sake it's better to be saved)

Hi if you ring Mastaz he can explain this to you. He has a youtube channel called speed junkies or something like that. Some really interesting stuff on there including the switchable tune ecu!
I sent my ECU to Empire and it was all very easy and results were good, including very acceptable EGTs after the map.
But you need to contact some tuners and see who suits your needs and your budget.
 
Yip Ive read all that old hat delphi stuff and much other stuff and been on many courses and have many certificates on diesel diagnostics and made a living from it for years and im sure your dead right..... in theory :)

in practice...it'll work just fine :)

For me "just fine" is not synonym with "perfect" so i feel like you are calling me a liar when i say that i made many live tests and i felt the difference.... even though i'm not making a living from this :rolleyes:
