Hey All,

My 2005 TD4 Freelander has started to throw out a lot of black smoke on acceleration so im going to give it a oil filter/oil change.

Whats the best type of oil and how much would i need.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Turbo or intercooler hose split or loose. Don't forget breather filter, it's not on the LR maintenance schedule!

HI Rob.
Click the link below and you will have all you need to do an oils & air filter service, black smoke is most likely an intercooler hose loose or split so check those, also if you want to go that extra step when servicing remove the manifold, then the EGR, MAP sensor from the side of the manifold and clean then all.

Manifold with the EGR & MAP sensor removed & its red rubber seals which can be used after cleaning, fill it with oven cleaner foam, leave to stand for at least four hours, filling it every hour with foam after a couple of hours give it its first jet wash out, if you have a jet wash, if not take it to your nearest pop up jet washing service that are now covering our city & towns they will do it for you for £5 once dry fit all the rubber seals back onto the manifold.

You can clean the EGR out with carb cleaner if not to bad but you can bet it will be,, so use an old tooth brush first and some Swarfega do not get any cleaner into the diaphragm what ever cleaner you use, or you could always just purchase a bypass EGR.
MAP sensor can be wiped clean with carb cleaner on a rag do not poke any thing into the air hole of the sensor.
