Rear Door wont open

Hi Guys, 2003 td4 3 door freelander that i cant open the rear door, the window goes up and down, when you pull the rear door handle switch the window drops for a couple of seconds but the boot doesnt open, so im guessing that the door solenoid is faulty, can you open the lock mechanism from inside the car if i can get the trim off, or do i just grind the door in half, tia.

It's easy, once the trim is off. The release solenoid is visible below the latch assembly. To release the door, you simply push the plunger in.

It might be worth pushing hard against door as you lift the handle, just in case something has got caught and is causing a lot of pressure against the mechanism.

Managed to prise the inner door card down, had to remove the plastic cover to gain access to the solenoid, pulled it down and door now open, awaiting parts, Cheers for the help

I have the same problem with door latch Mechanism, can I ask how you managed to prise the inner door card down? where did you start between the glass and rubber gasket or between the rubber gasket and the plastic panel?

The top part of the rear door card has catches that drop down into slots for want of a better description, i literally just put a bent screwdriver (hook shape) under the top right corner and lifted it up the half inch to get it out of the locating slots, move across until all the top edge is free, i then just pulled it back, i couldnt get acces to the bottom screws so i left them in. once you can see the black plastic cover of the lock, i managed to remove 2 of the small hex screws and then bent the cover up until i could see the plastic solenoid arm and lock wire/arm, pull that down and the door opens. then i removed the panels properly and tidied it up. Im still waiting for my replkacement unit.

Having had a temperamental rear door solenoid I took the rear panel off to have a look. Thought I'd sorted the problem but it reappeared a little while after. When I first looked though I decided to leave the screws out of the trim panel. That was a blummin good idea in the end as I subsequently couldn't open the door and it made it so much easier to get the panel off from the inside.
