This has been done to death I know but I can’t find the answer I’m looking for. I have a 2002 facelift TD5 auto without diff lock linkage or the innards, slight fail on my part! However at the moment I still have my D1 300tdi manual which I was planning to sell as spares/repairs (needs a new inner wing etc to pass an mot). What I wonder is does the D1 have all the parts I need to fit CDL to the D2?

I believe the TD5 transfer case has some bits in it that 300tdi one doesn’t so I know a transfer box swap is off the cards, I have read that it’s only the front of the transfer case that needs swapping and that you can use the 300tdi linkage though. May make a difference that one is auto and one is manual?

If it has I’ll take what I need, remove the other good bits off the 300tdi, sell them and scrap the rest.

you can swap front housing but it contains the shim for diff bearing preload so you need to adjust that a 300 wont have the hi/low switch location, but you can connect the wires to an external switch,300 autos have a bracket for hi/lo lever assembly that will fit

That sounds rather complicated for my limited skills sadly, servicing and replacing bits is about my limit. Buying a used transfer box might make more sense by the sound of it.
