Does the seven grand pay for the delay change?
Nope. Freelanders are worth more than tratters. We all know yer want a Freelander. You've been spotted posting in the Freelander section. ;)
Got to go. Hope yer get it fixed.

As Mr Martin said already try with aux belt off. Ive seen ceased water Pumps and personally had a ceased alt on 300tdis that stop it cranking or atleast hold it back best of luck mate.

We'll see, still can't work out why the oily glow plugs as I've replaced the head gasket on Sunday just gone, I'm sick of the piece of crap though

I know it sounds daft, but you haven't left any odd bolts or anything anywhere inside the engine when you changed the head gasket did you? :S

I've been driving it for a week so I don't see how I could have done and I was meticulous when I did the rebuild, I guess I'll see tomorrow when I start stripped off the head

I know a bloke that didnt even touch his engine until one particular day when it started smoking bad and it drove to a halt....he got it into a garage and started to strip it down, took the exaust manifold off and found a bolt inside the head that had come from somewhere that must have just sat funny long enough to wedge something and then dislodged itself again so it just shows random stuff can happen :O

Apart from the fact you can't buy 25+ year old gaylanders so would find it hard to compare really lol 7k gets you a 2016 hehe

My money's on a seized alternator. As many others have told you, remove the auxiliary belt and try cranking without it.

Send me your money then. All the pushrods are properly bent and even with them removed and the auxiliary belt it still won't turn over. Just trying to decide whether to sell it or not cos I'm sick of it and can't really face another engine swap especially as I've just bought that engine for four hundred quid

The timing belt will have slipped or snapped, you may have a valve or two bent over badly so the piston cant get all the way to TDC. Time for the head off, you may find it will turn over after that.

Did you save bits from your old engine?

If so, its only a belt you need. Even if you only kept the head (with valves) a set of pushrods, and a belt is about £80, assuming its not damaged stuff below.

I dont think the belt going would account for the oil though.

The engine might have been sat for years, and the belt aged?

ps if you were down the road, id offer some (uneducated) help - its rough when stuff keeps going wrong : (

If the bottom end did seize it wouldn't cause the valve train to get damaged unless it was an instantaneous stop such as a thrown rod, that should mean the bottom end is ok assuming you don't have a rod sticking out the case, but you would have noticed that - hopefully!

You can pick up a full engine for about 300 off Facebook mate I know it's a kick in the balls but you've probably **** the belt.. My current engine came from a disco with a snapped belt and I just swapped all 8 push rods, belt and water pump, did the valve clearances and she ran sweet. If you need a hand gis a shout. Stick by it and another full day on it and she will be running again.

Where did you get the engine from? Breakers will give guarantee but even private buy of decent person might get half your money back.
Don't laugh but it was actually a forum member, I have no reason to doubt his honestly though and I did end up stripping it, replacing the timing belt and putting my old head and head gasket on it cos it was burning oil with his on
