WHY do I hate Britpart parts?

What I am thinking is when I have a repair completed at a garage I would expect a warranty on the work completed, if the repair subsequently fails during the warranty period I would return to the garage and expect the vehicle to be put right free of any charges (I know there could be exceptions when another part fails which has an effect on the repair which was out of the control of the garage).
Now the customer has asked for Bripart parts to be used and the garage fits them as requested, the repair fails after a short time the garage will be able to claim a refund on the failed part but not the labour used to fit it. If this is more frequent with Britpart parts (and other none genuine parts will come into this category) the garage will be out of pocket and if frequently happens out of business.
As a professional when fitting none genuine parts to a customer's vehicle is there any allowance made when costing the job using none genuine parts? I understand the difference in parts prices will cause a difference or will it be a warranty difference?

in my experience the customer doesnt request make of parts fitted unless they are adamant only genuine, any parts fitted that garage thought dubious would be at customers own risk similar when fitting second hand parts and customer supplied parts, i tend to buy oe or decent brands or known good parts from britpart and similar with the bearmach etc, youll find very few parts bought from dealers in the trade due to the exorbitant prices and timkenis timken wherever you buy them from ,most of the genuine will come through the likes of britpart, ,similar in the car trade when you ring factors they offer a choice budget (usually ****e)or a few decent brands, car dealers etc tend to go for budget ****e, europarts are first choice around here ,and respectable garages take the lowest priced known brands, also the size of job replacing the part can play a sizeable part in choice ,your more likely to fit a decent part in something that requires engine out etc than say a simple job brake pad etc,if you order parts from a decent knowledgeable landy indie they tend to make orders up using the best cheapest parts from several wholesalers
 
I've got a Britpart exhaust downpipe on my TD5.
The garage that fitted it said at was some other make, and l was a bit disappointed when l went under the vehicle a few weeks later to change the oil.....and noticed the "Britpart" sticker.

However it's now done 10,000 miles and is still absolutely fine.

That is as I thought it would be, a garage would be offering to repair and give a quote for the work and parts. As a professional person the garage would be offing the repair as a cost effective repair not waiting a disappointed customer, supplying parts that would give a reasonable life and costing the repair such that the customer would agree to the work being completed.
A garage would develop the knowledge of parts from various manufacturers and use only those parts that fit the description of fit for purpose.
As owner/DIY repairer who may only fit any one part once this knowledge of the manufactured parts will not be accrued, when looking at the prices will have a dilemma as to what should I purchase an example is Defender CV joint None genuine £35.99 Genuine £629.51.

A garage would know which to purchase and it is probably nether of these in this example. The price of £35.99 is so tempting a saving of £593.52 the work involved fitting is not so great that you would want to spend an extra £593.52 thinking that the £35.99 will fail early.
 
britpart sell aeu2522 for 10.27, i do notice some cheap parts bp sell disappear ,ie d2 fuel pump/sender units now only oe available presumably the cheap part cost too much with returns it was known as a poor part

£10.27 for a CV joint that is a crazy price HOW can this part be sold at this price? The cost of the material alone will be at that cost level without all the manufacturing costs and packaging costs and the transporting costs and the manufacturers profit and the retailers profit and the tax etc. etc. etc.
Makes you think that the parts at this price come from the manufacturers reject bins and purchased for the scrap value of the material.
 
When I needed some work done I went to my local garage which is a family business and they work on loads of Landies. They all have LRs themselves and have been in business for generations. I asked them not to use any Britparts and their reply was they would never use those - they only use proper stuff! I had to wait a ridiculously long time fro some parts as LR kept sending the wrong stuff apparently, but I don't mind the wait.

you dont need dealer parts for that, bp and the other wholesalers do sell genuine parts as well as decent brands .just like super markets
OK, good to know, I guess I'm trusting the garage to sort me out as I don't have the know how myself at the mo.

With the knowledge that Britpart also distribute genuine parts, how do I get the Britpart distributed genuine part from an independent supplier at a lower price than going to a main dealer?
In my experience when asking an independent for genuine parts I get similar prices quoted as a main dealer so no advantage going to an independent.
Just as an example I phoned my local main dealer for a price on the CV joint I used in the previous example. This was a bad choice of part because thy said that AEU2522 was no longer available from LR as it has 23 splines but a 33 spline version would be £548.03 +VAT = £657. 63.
This is a similar price to the 23 spline in the example.
