    Headlights on European Roads

Nobody told me, I read it in the rules. You can continue with your UK insurance for as long as your insurance company lets you and the car is regd in UK. I have 1 UK reg'd car, which commutes from Normandy to London on a regular basis, and 1 ex UK Disco now French regd which pretty much stays...

If you keep calling it a jeep, it's no wonder it won't work for you. Rangies have feelings too.

Seeking for a front left door lock

Ha, rejoindre la file d'attente.:) I need both front door locks for a P38. Tres difficile a trouve. :( Try ebay, but there are none on there at the moment, only a drivers side front door lock. (OSF) English sellers will sometimes use 'near side' or 'NS' and 'off side' or 'OS' when refering...

    Hi Gents

Bonsoir Patrick. Je suis en France aussi, mais je suis anglais. Et un amateur de LR et aussi un mechanicien 4x4. Aussi je faire les escortes des convois exceptionnels anglais en France avec mon Discovery. De temps en temps de St Malo. I am near to Bayeux in 14, Calvados, Basse Normandie...

I like trucking and i like to truck....

Hi Ho It would seem that you have little work to do to make the Disco pass the test. Swivel pins are also known as king pins and it's where the front wheels turn from. 2 pins, 2 bearings, 4 bolts and some shims, each side. And a small spring balance to set the preload. Cheap as chips. As for...

    Headlights on European Roads

You have 6 months to get a French registration, more if you go back to the UK regularly. I have a set of LHD 300 series lights going spare here in Basse Normandy as well as most of a 300tdi manual RHD Disco to go with them. Make sure you have a bill of sale before you go to get the various...

    Head Gasket Failure etc

If you need a new head, then bite the bullet and get a Turner Engineering Performance head. I know it costs over £600 but you'll save that in diesel in under a year. Mine 95 300tdi went from 21mpg with a knackered head to 39mpg with a performance head.

    Def90 Td5 LHD Clutch renewal

I've done the job now. There was some other stuff to do on the engine (alternator and glow plugs) So I took the engine out. Much easier than the gearboxes I reckon, but I do hate lying on the floor and balancing heavy gearboxes on jacks. The dual mass flywheel was knackered. I replaced that...

    Def90 Td5 LHD Clutch renewal

I have just taken custody of a 2002 Defender 90 Td5 LHD with 100,000 km on it. Nasty squealing noises and vibes in the clutch pedal suggest a failing clutch release bearing. Difficulty to engage gears R and 1 to 3. My question is: Is it better / easier to remove the engine or the gearboxes to...

What mileage is your Disco 1 on?

1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres, so you're off by about 3% in your formula. My Disco1 has 142000 miles, but my neighbour's has 320000 miles. He's on his 2nd engine though.

Removed ACE - Warning light and new MOT

If there is no bulb, you could blank it with gaffer. If there is a bulb, you could replace it with a suitable resistor to keep the ECU sweet. I removed an offending ABS warning lamp on a RRC, the ABS worked fine.

    Rear radius arm

You have to ask yourself why it broke in the first place. Early Disco1 had solid arms that bent, later had thick wall tube arms, that don't bend. Never heard of one breaking without serious abuse.

    Door lock jammed!

Try pulling up on the lock button while working the latch. If it works, then you need a new doorlock spring. You'll need them on all the doors eventually, buy a full set , available on ebay. If it doesn't work, get a new door, cut the old one open and operate the latch from inside.
