Hi good people of L.Z think ive just been shafted by my local garage, snapped the radius arm on the rear with no warning made for very interesting driving until i could find somewere to park up and get recovered anyway £175 for one arm fitted plus recovery for about 5 miles does that sound a bit steep to anyone else and should both arms have been changed think i'll do it myself if so

does sound a little steep but depends on whats been done ,replacing one arm isnt an issue but you should fit both chassis/arm bushes if doing one

It was just the arm they replaced not even a new one scrap yard salvage they said new ones were very expencive but after looking on ebay i could of got a pair and changed them both myself cheaper than what they charged but had no choice needed picked up on a truck car was un-drivable and need it to get to work, are these arms a weak spot on disco's, is it worth splashing out on a new pair with new bushes, dont fancy one snapping at speed, cheers

I supose it soon adds up at garage rates, is it worth changing the other side before it snaps or is it a case of wait and see let it develop

its so easy to remove and fit a raduis arm why on earth didnt you have alook at it yourself ? its two big nuts to undo for gods sake... i would either sell your landrover , or do a diy mercanic coarse at colledge , unless you have very deep pockets, because this wont be the last of it ...:)

It was 5:30 on a monday morning bit dark and stuck on a back road had no chance of driving it the rest of the way to work, need the truck to get to work daily so had no choice but to pay up, weekends is the only spare time i get to do work on it or i would of done it myself, ive got very deep pockets but short arms!

should of asked for a price first then... another person shafted by the motortrade:D

My mistake, will be my first question to ask if im in that situation again, think i'll change the other side arm just for peace of mind though

no your not mistaken ,trailing arms are normally very durable ,its more likely for axle bracket to rot off than arm ,it is quite a rare occurance

Thank you, both brackets seem of just surface rust anyway soon clean up and treat with waxoil.
Can the old arm be welded it snaped at the chasis end just before the bolt doesn't seem to be rusty or best to just scap it?

If you are that worried about it.

Youmight as well replace both of them if the garage put a second hand part on.

No point in just replacing one old arm if its piece of mind your looking for.

Never had serious abuse with me mainly road use with the occasional dirt road farm track at low speeds, was hoping to get some green laning in this year pop my cherry maybe just aswell getting apair of shiny new ones then i know its done
