ok so coolant loss could even perhaps be airlock? i have only had the vehicle a few weeks so not sure what has been done before i have had it and as for the loom have checked a few times now and looks all ok i did strip the ecu and there was no oil in there but oil in the wlug which i washed out...

as it is idling high it does sound like someone has played with the injector pump fuel screw the one on the back with the 13mm nut on try loosening the nut and unscrewing this 1\2 a turn at a time as it is very sensitive and see if it makes any difference turn it 1\2 a turn see what that does...

my defender 90 td5 has a few problems when you key off there is a groaning sound from under the bonnet sounds like it is around the footwell?
also it is loosing coolant and the heater will go from hot to cold as you are going along ?
it is also a little rough running over idle too...

Thank you everyone diagnosis was spot on tapped it open with a hammer and punch then put mole grips on and hit them backwards and forwards with a hammer untill it freed off then put wd40 and copper slip on it goes like a missile now and before this it would kangaroo in all gears but perfect now...

When we had teliporters at work where people have put coolant in the hydrostatics we have taken the filter out dropped the oil cleaned the filter and repeated this process untill it has come clear then we change the filter

Will double check tomorrow but dont think so would that cause flat spots and the truck to jerk quite violently under acceleration?
This is my first ever td5 i can get my head around a 200 tdi series with a vnt turbo but the td5 is a bit of a learning curve

Hi all this has probably been covered somewhere already i bought a w reg td5 defender a few days ago which i suspected an injector loom fault which was true it had oil dripping into the seatbox so i cleaned all the contacts at the loom end and ecu plug end replaced the injector loom and stripped...

88" soo as reg plate is xoo---s as backwards soo also sometimes called muddy landy (after off roading)
109" lofdy reg plate lfd---P also sometimes known as the barge and sometimes known as the money pit (as currently under restoration)

i am 17 and just put my series 3 88" landy on the road nfu wanted about £2700 and adrian flux wouldn't touch me but the cheapest i found was £1750 on a price comparison site

what was your series 2 used for originally as i noticed the highway maintenence stickers because my series 3 109 was used by tarmac road surfacing

i paid £200 for my 88" all that needed was a little welding a little paint a little wiring and the air fuel mix on the carb sorting and i paid £250 for my 109 that needed seats rear propshaft bulkhead repairs wiring chassis welding paint door hinge brakes clutch tyres so in conclusion 88" just...

mine and 109 partys mates one also starts up fine doesn't use any more water than it should today we where thinking that it could be the stem seals haven't bedded in properly yet as they are proper genuine land rover ones or shouldn't this make any difference? and it is still burning a little...
