Hi all , been reading these threads with interest but the great has certainly worn-off - in fact I wish I never started.

If the seals on the turbo had gone then I'd first look for blue-ish smoke as i believe they're oil seals.... But then again....
If its white smoke I'd be inclined to think head gasket or another water seal - has the engine oil turned gray? is there an increase in temperate indicate on the dash?

Too much expense and hassle... you're really have had to cook the engine and as its a know issue with the K-series!
As to the difficulty I really don't know with a Freelander, but sure someone could tell you how many Haynes spanners it is....

Has changing the Head Gasket got more complicated?
Surely a long weekend, manual and socket set (torque wrench) is all the tools you'll really need...:D

I've found the opposite in fact and have used this site to fix clutches on two freelander without expecting others to answers my questions I first looked it up and found plenty of details threads, downloaded the Rave CD and went about fixing it....

Its not much help but i think I've got the same issue, on full lock or almost full lock a sound of types (that's not tin can dropping in sound) like a thud and and a few clicks...
Away it doesn't sound comfortable so i don't do and then there's no sound!:D bad attitude I know but I've had it for...

Yeah, on the bolt nearest to the engine an extension only goes so far due tho the cr*p that's in the way - I found if I lowered the engine a bit and used a swivel type connector on the socket it came undone with a breaker bar, the hand sized ratchet just wouldn't move on it, my biggest fear then...
