Hi everyone
Firstly, let me say I am a newbie having just bought my first Landy Freelander '04 Td4 two weeks ago. I love it and it seems to drive very nicely.. except when I turn left or right, where I experience a 'rubbing' sound from the front. I have researched the forums on here and most people who have this complaint mention a metallic rattle like an empty can. That is not what I'm experiencing - mine sounds more like a temporary flat tyre until I straighten out (which I definitely don't have, and they're not actually rubbing). Though the reading I have done, I'm bogged down by VCU, bearings, brake caliper etc but I just wanted to get the option of someone who may have experienced exactly this. While I'm here, perhaps someone could also recommend a trust worthy LR mechanic in the South London area or Sussex who I could talk to?
Anyway, many thanks guys and gals.

Rubbing sound at the front sounds like a brake related issue, but frankly I have no clear picture in my head as to what a flat tyre sounds like!

If on full lock it could be one of the wheels scrubbing on the ground due to VCU locked up, it would be more noticeable on gravel. If that is the case remove the propshaft immediately, don't ignore it or you will get a very big bill soon. Testing it will take approx 7 minutes. 5 to jack up a rear wheel and 2 to find a 32mm socket, pop off the wheel centre cover and test if the wheel will turn. If you can't make the wheel turn slowly without too much force the VCU is fubared.

Could also be as simple as a loose wheel arch liner (they do have them don't they?) or mudflap rubbing.

Its not much help but i think I've got the same issue, on full lock or almost full lock a sound of types (that's not tin can dropping in sound) like a thud and and a few clicks...
Away it doesn't sound comfortable so i don't do and then there's no sound!:D bad attitude I know but I've had it for a number of years and if i recall it was when i clipped a curb...
I suspect it power steering related but as I've said a number of years and no failures or get worse so I'm just going to leave it.

Note: I've had mostly everything else off with other jobs so I know the drive, wish bone etc are fine....

Two penny worth...
