    If your lucky its the head gasket but most likely as above.......dont run it! get the head off and start looking for the damage :)

    TBH I think that valve looks ok, if the seat looks shiny too and not pitted its probably fine.

    Fuel pump delivery problem maybe? not an expert on these but from past experience a fast mis/splutter was often spark while a more sluggish mis/splutter was fuel. Bit vague sorry but so many new sensor set ups on these things it could be more in depth, but in general terms my schoolboy list...

    Jack up the wheel just off the ground and grip it and try and rock the wheel side to side from one lock to the other. If its really bad you can detect it by just grabbing the top of the tyre and rocking it in and out without jacking it up. When mine were bad I could rock the wheels in and out...

    Lots of different ideas on the pre-load, some say use a gauge, leave a tiny bit of play etc. When I did mine they were done just about hand tight which I read somewhere was about right...NO totally wrong did a big off road trip and by the end of it I could wobble the wheels about!     Totally agree, old or no antifreeze, this does cause sludgy deposits that block the radiator core. Definitely flush the rad out as well as the block, run it for a week or so then drain it again and refill with good quality mix. The sludge is bad it clots on water ways in the head and builds...

    +1 the tab washer should have an upwards tab that locks it to the arm then the other portion bashed up tight to the nut flat. The arm should lock on its taper? it shouldnt just rely on the nut anyways.

    Check for play in the knuckle joints between the steering wheel and the box, also check for play on the drop arm ball joint and all other connecting rod joints.     Used to get a clonk when pulling away sometimes, that was A frame ball joint, once replaced the clonk vanished.

    Ok sounds a bit better now. Prop shaft bent? new UJ's are cheap and new prop is around £50-60, maybe ask him what his best price is and work from there :)
