When you put it back together use metal dowels not plastic. You should also use new head bolts as the old ones will be streached.

Jack the front up and wobble the wheel about and if it's that bad I wouldnt drive it!!

It is notoriously difficult to get a true positive reading from a sniff test on a diesel engine. You know you have a cracked cylinder head. Until you address that issue, your chasing your tail.

sounds like a crank sensor fault, the wires for the crank sensor may well have been disconnected if you have had the gearbox out.

When you say it wont start, does it turn over but not fire up or does it not turn over? Have you ever heard it running?

I don't understand where you mean "top left drivers side"??
Anyway if your happy it's not the sunroof or the sunroof drain. Check the corner of the guttering and the corners of the windscreen, both known faults.

I think if I remember (could be wrong) if you expose the motor, the large centre plastic cog has a slot or allen key cut in to it, find an appropiate tool to wind it.

I expect it's the gutter seal, have a goop look on both front corners of the gutters. They need sealing AGAIN. Also check the windscreen rubber in the top corners but I suspect it's the guttering.

Are you sure that the ignition lock hasn't been changed at some time and therefore the key you have is the wrong key for the door.
Have a chat with a Landrover main agent and quote your chasis number or show them the log book they may be able to help you out if this is the case. Of course it...

I don't think it will do much for your power or economy, But it will help the transfer box no end if it hasn't been done for a long while.
Just a little tip, DO NOT drain out the oil until you know you can remove the fill plug.

I think you are a little confused as to how your transmission works!!
Your transfer box is working ALL the time your gearbox is working so you need to change the oil in it.
Hope that helps

Do as Johnlad says, Check the back of the alternator, I bet that's the problem.

Give them a ring and talk to Freda she knows her stuff. You are talking a lot of pennies though. That said in my opinion, you won't better anywhere else.
Good luck

Mine takes 4 to 5 miles to get to the halfway mark in light traffic at this time of year.
