How long should TD5 take to warm up?

I have just sorted mine out as it was warm for forever! I will give you an accurate distance for the temp gauge to go half way as well as the length of time for decent warm air.

I had the same story with my 2001 TD5 Defender, the viscous fan was running all the time, you could hear the noise and feel quite a strong blast of air all the time the engine was running.
Fitted a new one which you can hear running when it first starts but if I drive down the street then back the fan is slipping and the noise is very different, even with the bonnet down.
Result is the engine now warms up much sooner probably less than two miles ( winter) and the heater gives out some heat.
Heat is a relative term for a defender, but certainly better than before.

I get 3 miles down the road to a traffic queue and you can see the temp guage go back down as I wait at the lights. Heater takes ages to warm up.

Mine warms up after about 4-5 miles on the A1.

Problem I find is my left leg gets very hot, the right stays cold!

I think whoever did the heater distribution pipes also did the ones on my old MG Midget, that would roast your left leg!

Anyone else find the same thing?!

Also I would recommend draining the system and adding the correct mix of coolant to water for the winter . The coolant also increases the boiling point from 100c with pure water to about 130 with a mix and pressure. I am going to do this tomorrow to see if my overall temp increase.
