Derek, Defo no gas test. I was there throughout. The gas analyser can not be linked to the computer - not all cars need it. I'm not complaining as I was a little worried about it; just wondered if it was no longer required?

My P38 just passed its MOT which is good news... They did not do a gas analysis this time rouind which surprised me; I did not complain... It this the new rules. CHeers.

I had a P38 (petrol) that woldnt start. Main dealer said there were no faults reported on diagnostice. Turned out to be a faulty crank shaft sensor. A clue can be when you crank the engine the rev counter stays still as it also takes signal from the sensor. But that was on a P38 petrol!

Whats the mileage, colour and how much do you want for it?

I could also do with some help on this as I have a similar issue but have been ignoring it as I only normally use "D" although this may change with the current weather!!

Thanks Javars, Are we talking serious amounts of white smoke and does it dissapear quickly as engine warms, also as a guide how quick will water reservoir empty hence overheating?

Its not overheating. There is no major water loss although I do top up about a pint or so every couple of months, say 3000 mles. Recently did nearly 1000 miles in a week with no significant loss. Just kep an eye on it from time to time. A bit of white smoke when cold but it is cold weather...

When starting from cold there is a strange noise, sounds like a knocking, that comes from the drivers side of engine. Sounds to be just below plugs. Tickover is rough but improves significantly as engine warms... J

I have a P38 petrol 4.0. How can i tell if a liner has slipped in the engine? Thanks, J
