Just appeared on BBC Street Patrol UK

I just appeared on BBC1 Street Patrol UK, representing the Green Lane Association, criticising illegal off roading at an area of outstanding natural beauty in Somerset and reminding people about their responsibilities. You can view it by forwarding to 11.39 here: BBC iPlayer - Street Patrol UK -...

3mb oil filter housing interchangeable with 5mb?

I'm swapping the tired old 3mb petrol engine in my Series 3 with a low mileage 5mb engine that I've bought on ebay. The engine has turned up today minus the oil filter and housing. Can I simply swap the 3mb one over? I have a nasty feeling that one of the ways people tell the difference between...

The things we do for love...

I had to have a major operation last Spring and spent almost the whole year last year in a wheelchair. What kept me more sane than anything else was lavishing attention on my old Land Rover! Classic Fanatic: The things we do for love...

    Help - mysterious misfire

Wondering if anybody might have any bright ideas on a mysterious misfire problem I'm having with my old ex army Series III 109 2.25 petrol. She runs absolutely normally at tickover and at low revs. Smooth, no problem at all. Under load though she's misfiring horribly. Not a typical running on...

    Help, near Bristol

Steve Hill has told me he thinks I ought to get the gearbox rebuilt, but he isn't keen on doing it himself. He's happy to take the gearbox out and happy to put it back in, but he isn't happy to rebuild it. Capable DIYers? No idea. I don't know what's wrong with it, other than it has jumped out...

    Help, near Bristol

Can anybody recommend someone who can fix a gearbox problem and rebuild the engine of my SIII 2.25, somewhere in the Bristol area, who is trustworthy and good at his job?

    Stripping

This weekend I will be mostly stripping what's left of the old camo paint from my SIII 109. It's an old radio truck, so I understand the paint is nasty stuff and I should take care. Bought a decent facemask and I'll be doing it outside with an electric sander. Anything I should know? Be handy...

    Brake switch problem

I get through one every couple of months on my old ex army SIII. I have come to realise that if you stand around with your foot on the brake it will heat up and it will fail. I do think there is an issue with a duff load of replacement switches though.

    Greetings

I've lurked on here for years but not posted much. This is all about to change as I get my hands properly dirty with Gloria, my ex army Series III 109 FFR. She's a solid old truck, owned for about seven years now and is very much as she was when I bought her at auction. I've messed about with a...

    What is my 109 worth?

It's insurance time of the year again and I never know how to answer this question, so I'll throw it open to the floor. 1980 ex army 109 FFR. Very solid condition, no rust at all on the bulkhead or chassis, lots of new bits in the last year, including leaf springs and shocks, full exhaust, both...

    Stupid question - indicator switch

The self cancel on my military SIII 109 works...sometimes. More often than not, not at all, especially signalling right. Is there likely to be any way of fixing this or will it require a new switch?

    How not to do it...

So there I was, lying on my back underneath my old Series III. Old sump oil draining into tray next to me. Reach up with a ratchet to remove oil filter. Have done this a hundred times before, so know where to position myself to avoid oil from filter. Forgot. As I removed the filter I was...
