    Dual battery

Wish I knew how to connect the 2nd battery in a proper way - I got this car with two batteries already there, connected parallel, I think. So they were draining each other ot something, I don't know for sure as I'm a bit of a dumbass when it comed to automotive wiring/electronics and so on. I've...

Can I put abs onto my discovery 200tdi

The whole point of owing a 200tdi is simplicity, not a songle computer and everything real. Want a car that is stellar at braking (and accelerating) look at BMW. That's sort of a joke. I had DBA drilled rotors on a D2 a while bsck woth EBC pads and stainless steel hoses and a system flush and...

Disco I 200tdi front diff - what are my options?

Ok, so what about the P38 diffs, I know some people were trying to fit them to the D1/RRC. Any consensus there? I keep driving her as it is, but repairs should be done soon. . .

    Thinking of getting a disco

Around here I'seen a couple of D3s hangin' with the frsme down and engine removed. Turns out some D3 engine types like the 2.7 diesel are throwaways, the run for about 130-160 thousand kms, and on at least one the block had to be replaced. That's all I know.

Not your usual oil thread (promise)

If you're so worried about it - change the oil twice. Fill, run the engine, drain and re-fill. Mostly a waste of time and money though.

    Which front diff?

Ok, I've just posted on the Disco section; essentially my problem is identical, but rotational play is at both ends of the front d-shaft. Only part of it is the U-joints. Total play - about 3 hours let's say, I'll re-check it. Are Def and Disco I diffs pretty much the same? P.S. On board air is...

Disco I 200tdi front diff - what are my options?

I'm not trying to build a monster truck out of it or to win any trophy races. It's just that both UAZ 469 and Mercedes G-wagon w461 have locking front and rear and center of course, and D1 should have, too but doesn't. I couldn't bring myself to get the former and couldn't afford the latter, so...

Disco I 200tdi front diff - what are my options?

Thanks for the response. The thing is, I don't really want to keep it standart; I mean it isn't exactly a staple of perfection after all. My problem is, I'm fairly ignorant on the subject. I see a diff can be a 10 spline or a 24. What would be the advantages of going with the latter? Does this...

Disco I 200tdi front diff - what are my options?

I'm really confused, the front d. shaft is loose, they say both LT230 and front diff need a rebuild. I am in the West of Russia and could easy get "new" t-case n' diff from a junk yard in Russia, Lithania, or Poland. But I don't want to go that route. It seems there is lots of things out there...

    Ratty's Poll - Security devices.

The best anti-theft devices are in South Africa :) Here in Russia, older Land Rovers are never stolen, at least I've never heard of such a thing. The gentleman I bought my Disco from told me: "you've just acquried a beatiful piece of British real estate - you will probably never be able to sell...

    replacing a gearbox in a Disco 1

I don't need an R380 just yet, since I've just thrown in a "new" LT77, that is new to me. As far as the 56A, I was looking at a phone pic I took, and the numbers are hardly visible. So perhaps it is a 55A, I'll need to look at it again. My plan now is to repair the damn thing, I want to try...

    replacing a gearbox in a Disco 1

My old LT77s gearbox had a number starting with 56A and ending with a suffix H. Some British site recommends using Castrol SMX-S with these boxes, though ATF Dextron II/III is more commonly advised. What fluid is generally agreed upon? I've got Castrol ATF DexII in there right now... Thanks

    Steering wheel loose?

The grease monkeys told me the tie rod ends and all that seems to be OK. But the steering wheels has lots of play; I can turn it probably 30 degrees before getting any response. Someone told me, the power steering pump might be responsible, though I can't imagine how this may be. So how bad...

    replacing a gearbox in a Disco 1

OK, well the new tranny is in and it works. Cost me a total of about $900 parts and labor, plus another may be $40 for fluids. The gearbox is probably OK, though compared to a BMW gearbox for instance, it's total ****. Now I have a nagging sus****ion that perhaps the techs at that shop were'n...

    Twin Batteries.

Well, I know next to nothing about these cars as I just bought mine last week or so, and only driven it once since. But the fact is, it came with two batteries. Now I guess I nee to find out how they are all wired, as I have not a clue. Judging from the fact that there are two battery...
