I'm having some trouble with starting the disco 300tdi. the starter (a re con replacement) packed up the other week. it was the 3 gear cogs that just disintergrated. I've since got a second hand 'Bosch' from a scrapyard. the thing is it only just turns over the engine and drains the battery...

would a NA engine fit into a disco 1 auto (p reg). before anyone tries to shoot me down, i want to run on straight heated veg oil and I'm after the most basic, well engineered engine possible. I hate engines with electronic sensors and things and just want a bog standard easy engine to work on...

I'm after a Bosch or Lucas starter motor. Brand new. I've had the reconditioned ones before and i'm not impressed. Where can i get one and it must be new and original. many thx Ian

The disco won't start. its a 300 tdi, P reg. Power is getting to the starter motor but there's just a whirring noise. I don't think it's engaging. The electrics seem to be playing up a little (Alarm system). Can it be connected? I've also noticed a Heat/Burning smell latly. Smells something like...

Whats the best way to secure a disco 1. there have been a lot of thefts here all landrovers and they seem to know how to nick them. Alarms are not up to the job in my oppinion. Thx Ian

The one on the car is a replacement part, not genuine. The top cap is screwed on with a machine screw and comes off. The gauze filter is underneath the cap.

Im after the round gauze filter that sits inside a fuel pump from a 300 tdi. Can i get these seperatly? Where from? What size (micron) is the gauze? I may be able to make one. Thx Ian
