P38A P38 Rear transverse brake line

Hi Mark, here's another couple of tips / problems I found which may or may not apply depending on your facilities: I took this over 2 days as the car was on the drive. I washed off the whole underside as best as I could as there was plently of dirt up above the crossmembers and chassis rails...

P38A P38 Rear transverse brake line

Hi All, just a quick heads up for something to check the next time you're looking at the brake lines on the rear of the P38. I've just changed both calipers as one had decided to seize up. I also had an advisory on corrosion on the pipework from last year, so I thought I might as well change...

    my failed valley gasket

As far as I know the composite valley gaskets are for the injection engines, the tin gasket was fitted to the 3.5's. Buy a good quality composite as they're some cheap ones out there, don't forget the Hi Temp RTV. I used Hylomar around the water passages on mine - all 4 - this was a composite...

    Slipped Liner

You might want to check, but, I thought some of the replacement engine builders required an exchange unit? If so, it could loose you the ability to make any money on selling on your old engine. You'll also be re using most of the ancillaries, so wont be able to recoup costs with them ? That...

    my failed valley gasket

Your mention of a metal joiner for the Top hose got me looking, found this don't know if its the same: DPHSport Aluminium Tee Piece - various sizes. (sorry not good with pasting a link). They do a set for the 300 Disco but they have quite a few measurement combinations available.

    my failed valley gasket

If the gasket was buckled, you may want to check the crankcase pipe and fitting on your Divers side Rocker Cover and make sure its flowing freely. I've seen a valley gasket on a 3.5 buckled up due to crankcase pressure probably caused by blocked flame traps.

Got to be worth a test drive.

Problems with right bank 4.6 V8 Year 2000(Thor)

Hi you might want to pop the exhaust manifold off and check it thoroughly, one of ours had a pin hole where the three pipes are welded together at the collector, probably like it from new, but it chuffed away like a good un intil I replaced it with a s/h from Emmots.

    Oil seepage

If its your Rockers leaking the upper plenum should be enough to take off leaving the inlet manifold intact. If its the valley gasket then its the whole lot. If it is your rockers, don't be too quick to replace the U/P, I did mine a couple of years ago and the gaskets eventually settled and...

    Buying a 322 on LPG

As has been said, they're not without their problems, but they are a very nice car to drive. If you're handy with a spanner and as Saint said read the forum there'll no doubt be help available should you need it. If you know a owner locally have a chat and a look round theirs before you buy /...

    Buying a 322 on LPG

We've had our L322 for around 2 years now and its a lovely car, the fact it also runs on LPG is a bonus. Conversions are still around the £1600 - 2000 mark so you could drop that off the purchase price to get a value for the bare car. I think that the Prinz system is reportedly one of the better...

    catalytic converters

Have a check by looking underneath the car but I think you'll need the later set of front pipes, with the 4 O2 sensor fittings ( only the 2 front fittings are used but these pipes have another fitting to the rear of each cat), ours is a 99 and it needs these ones. They are about, for differing...

    Top End Refresh....

Just thought of a problem I had about a year ago - I put it down to dodgy part and promptly went on to the next fault... Oil light was on erratically, thought it was the sender so picked one up, but luckily to get to the sender I had to get the filter off, the valve within the filter had...

    Top End Refresh....

Just looked at the You tube links, weird, you have low oil pressure with a cold engine and according to your light oil pressure when its hot - I knew P38's were quirky but that takes the biscuit. I think the pulsing may be the relief valve ? Thinking on the start up noise - and what your Tech...

    Top End Refresh....

I'm looking forward to your 'how to..'. Hope the work solves the oil pressure problem. I agree with you that the system is seen generally as a 'whole' by the O/P gauge and the worn rocker shafts can cause L/P. I take it those are two genuine Rocker shafts and you're re-using the arms. As posted...
