Giving one of the P38's a look over (while doing the steering damper) i noticed some oil seepage.. tracing it back it seems to be coming from left bank top, (looking down the vehicle) under the A/C compressor (Thor engine)

with the A/C compressor in the way, it seems to be either the rocker cover or the top of the front cover.

Its nothing drastic, but planning on putting this on my list if things to do.

So my question is..

As its' LPG, getting the inlet manifold off to access the rocker covers is going to be a pain.. if i'm there should i do the front cover too ?

and if i'm there, should i do the timing chain. and if i'm there, should go the whole hog and do the head gaskets.

its got shy of 130k on it runs quiet, smooth, pulls very well. should i leave alone or dive in ?

adam if it aint broke dont fix it. regarding rocker n valley gaskets i did my rocker gaskets a while back and will be doing my valley gasket n end seals this week weather permitting iv found some great how to guides. in doing the rocker gaskets your more than half way to the valley any ways. regarding heads n stuff if no problems just leave them alone.

Saint.. seeing as your so adept at doing the front cover fancy giving me a demo on how to do them (on mine) :D:D:D

If its your Rockers leaking the upper plenum should be enough to take off leaving the inlet manifold intact. If its the valley gasket then its the whole lot. If it is your rockers, don't be too quick to replace the U/P, I did mine a couple of years ago and the gaskets eventually settled and begun to leak, so I wished I'd nipped them up, left them overnight and then gone back to them - as you're aware - you can only get to the outer bolts on a THOR.
If you do lift the inlet manifold watch for the coolant in the block, there's plenty left in it when the bottom hose is disconnected - you may need to attempt to loosen the block drains.
Timing chains at 130000 probably have a fair bit of wear, our P6's at 70000 used to be sloppy and that was being run with a nylon toothed wheel, and if you go that far you'll have enough of it in bits to have a good look around for anything else.

yep the upper plenum todo the rorckers to be honest not a lot has to come off to do just them and looking at it only the alternator ana/c pump needs moving out of the way to get to the valley.

this is on the gems engine but you get the idea

Thanks fourthbridge that's worth knowing and a good tip.

I'm just considering that point that once i get stuck in, i may as well get stuck in rather than do it and later on think, oh i should have done 'XYZ'

It can be off the road as long as it takes, i just want to make sure its done properly.
