Just thought of a problem I had about a year ago - I put it down to dodgy part and promptly went on to the next fault...
Oil light was on erratically, thought it was the sender so picked one up, but luckily to get to the sender I had to get the filter off, the valve within the filter had 'broken' and a small part was blocking the feed line. If you revved the engine it had enough volume to overcome the light but on tick over no go, and this was a 50K engine. I now get better quality filters.....

even pumps broken in three places produce more pressure than that, just how worn was this cover?,are you sure you have a good seal on the pick up pipes o ring and also the gasket twixt cover and block?

Just seen the video Ant, what an odd one. Agree with the pick up pipe seal not sure the cover to block would cause your problem. New cover, pick up pipe o ring and a new filter then fingers crossed:) Don't forget to check the strainer/pick up pipe is clear.:)

New Front Cover, Water Pump Gasket, Front Cover Gasket, Front Crank Seal, Sump Gasket ordered yesterday (when Island 4x4 re-opened after Crimbo)

All other parts have been delivered (Cam, Followers, Rods, Rockers, Shafts, Springs, Washers, Pedestals, Caps, Pins, Gaskets etc)

So once the Front Cover is delivered, I'll swap that out and see what happens....Island have said they will accept the unused parts back for a full refund should the new front cover not solve the oil pressure issue!

Do all the tolerance checks on the new case and pump. Coat and prime pump well with STP not engine oil. Use the rest of the STP around tappets and cam along with and cam lube you got with cam. When engine starts and oil lamp goes out run at 2000 RPM until tappets go quiet then for a further five minutes after that.

And if that doesn't cure your oil pressure problem then its time for a crank regrind.:(:)

Make sure you prime the oil pump.
Will do Tony,

As it is a new cover I don't want to remove the pump, so the plan is to fit the cover and oil filter (filled of course) and then pour STP down the oil pressure switch hole to fill the pump and gallery.

Or would you advocate trying to force grease (only have general purpose grease to hand) up the pump outlet port to pack the pump gears!

Thought as it is a new cover it would come pre-packed with something!

DO NOT put grease into the oil pump STP. Turn pump to spread it about. If you have none get some.
