Last few nights the factory fitted Land Rover abt 6 inch front spotlights which come on with main beam and go off on dip,They have flashed on/off a few times recently at night,So this morning i removed the spots and cleaned up the earth inside them. All wiring looked good.I went inside the disco switched on main beam....Switched the spots on as usual by pressing the switch on the left pinnacle.. Spots came on for about a minit and then went off ??.So I put a direct line to each spot and they lit up ok no problem. But now they don't come on at all with main beam.Plus the little light that comes on in the center of the dashboard pinnacle switch does not illuminate... I have checked the fuses under bonnet,Rear of the battery,All fuses read ok.I checked the fuses under steering wheel all read ok..So Question,, Whats the fuse and its location that controls the front 6 inch spot lights.Or if it uses a relay as well which i think it might where is that located..Could they use an inline fuse somewhere??.I just want them to work as they have been doing for years.Any ideas ??

You can buy the control unit, but it's expensive (and not reliable), it's part number - VUB501690

There's a link in the first post, to Urban Panzer's Discovery 2 website, which gives details of replacing the control unit with a relay.

OK Guys thanks for the reply's,It looks as tho Thats my problem. So do i look for someone who is braking a Discovery 2 ? I am thinking are these relay boxes fitted to most Disco 2s whether they have spots fitted or not ?? Do the mod but i know me if i carry out the mod mentioned when i go to switch my ignition back on some thing will go wrong lol.How can they justify £90 for a posh relay in a plastic box.But at least I know what the problem is..

The Control Unit is supplied as part of the Driving Lights and Auxiliary Wiring Kits from Land Rover - it's not fitted to all vehicles.

Replacing the control unit with a relay and the switch with a latching live-switching switch (Defender Puma Heated Seat Switch) would cost you under a tenner and take less than half an hour to do.

I can post-up before and after diagrams, with a 'how to' if you like?

If you want to just change the control unit then, I have a brand new unused control unit from a Discovery II Auxiliary Wiring Kit.

When I (recently) fitted the kit, I went straight for the relay and switch modification and didn't use the control unit.

Yours for half price - £45 + Postage
