Well, lots of people will ask why I bothered, but as I picked up a set of D2 facelift headlights for cheap off ebay, as they had knackered reflectors (Full of mud :rolleyes:) , I thought why not...

So stripped down the headlights, cleaned them all up, even installed some LED Daylight Running lights, and put in some SMD LED clusters for the Side Light and Indicator Light, and then got them onto my 300.

I know it will not be a D2 by changing the lights, but I like the look of them better than the 300's and she past her MOT with flying colours so thought I would do something that wasn't a necessity for a change ;)

If you are ok in taking apart the Headlight, then they were easy. But to be honest, out of all the headlights I have done, these weren't so bad - 2 screws on one side, and then a heat gun around the edges for around 5 mins to warm up the glue/sealer and then just prise apart.

Got a 40cm LED strip, and then cut them down to fit, and stuck them in place.

I then wired up a fused 12v relay from an iginition feed so that they are always on once the iginition is on, and jobs a good one :D

No worries, I knew you were interested before, so thought I would ask - shame it took around 6 months for me to actually fit them! And you can't beat free - lol

Have posted the parts up in the classified on the forum to see if any takers before whacking them on flea-bay.......
 
lol, to which part - the Headlight LED mods, or the fitting of the lights?

Headlight LED mods is easy, once the headlight is apart - straight forward to replace what you want with LEDs and stick them in place. A load resistor is required if changing the Indicator to LED's to stop the rapid flash (as the car thinks a bulb has blown).

As for fitting them, a big angle grinder was the tool of choice.....cut away metal until they fit, then fabricate a new bracket for one of the bolts on top of the light, and finish off with some sealer around the edges.

Option bull bar hides a lot of the joins :D

There are already loads of DIY's on fitting the lights on the Forum, as that's what I used as a guide.

As for the arch moldings - haven't got a clue, as I certainly haven't changed any, so if they are, they must have been fitted before I bought it.
 
Got them from Ebay, althought they came from foreign parts.....

Took me ages to source round clusters to actually fit in the space, and in the end found them by searching for festoon lights......

Just trawled through my ebay account, and found them...

Here are the clusters:-

12 SMD 5050 LED White Car interior Room Dome Light R01 on eBay (end time 04-Aug-10 21:01:15 BST)

I did go through the process of thinking I really needed amber for the Indicators but as the Lense is amber, white LED's work fine.


These are the Amber LED strips that i put down the side reflector to light up with the lights on too:-

Sorry to change the subject a little bit.
But does anybody know if the H4 led-light (like from the same supplier as these LED-strips) are any good?
Do they give as much light as a normal H4?

My friend put some in his Defender and they made a massive difference, normally with normal beam it was shocking and could hardly see anything ahead. Replacing all the bulbs with LED versions worked out well and I plan to do the same when I get my Disco.

Hi, you got a link to the h4 headlight bulbs? Had a quick look but seems to only be for fog lights..cheers.
