so the V8 auto is a recent purchase and when booted hard with my size 17's she banged through the gears a bit.so i let a bit of the oil out the sump and it was minging looked more like engine oil out of my 300tdi.
no worries got a new filter fresh bottle of dextron2 O rings etc and thought i would spend sunday afternon changing it.
so with my blinkers on i could see 6 bolts holding up the sump ideal this wont take too long...........OMG who designed that mess under the disco had to drop the down pipes unbolt center section then realised the cross member and the fooking anti roll bar both had to be moved.
so what looked like a hour or 2 job was 6 just to get it all off then some awkward git put T27 screws holding the oil filter in my kit only having t15, t20, t25 etc had to use plenty on heat on all the big bits snapped a manifold bolt.
checked the time and it was 9pm :(. not bad but not good with the wife needing the car at 8am and me having to get up for work at 5am got it all back together and all tools in the house and made it to bed just after 130am.
i can see why no body had done it before, still the old bird is smooth as you like through the gears now.
the moral of the story is landys are good but designed and built by numptys so dont start any jobs on a sunday cause its always going to take longer than you expect:doh:

but when all that aged ****e u disturbed starts blocking the govneor you will be in the ****.

it happened to me

I'm glad I paid an Land Rover independant £140 extra to do it for me, as part of the recent service, that included everything even the manifold gaskets.
And they used Dexron lll which is good for a 100k miles so they say so I'm happy :D

And me n fooked the g/b completely

what do you mean should i just of left it alone its changing gear really smooth now and ive covered 1000 miles since i done it now, how would it of made a difference if someone else done it other than to my wallet:confused:

should i give it another oil change will this help save me or am i screwed now

i dont understand i changed the filter

If there was that much metallic **** in the sump it must have been on its last legs anyway and you just brought forward the inevitable?

Worked a treat on P38's & the RRC I had

i never said anything about metallic **** in the oil just about the colour which was more like a really dark honey instead of the red it should of been
as for metallic stuff there was nxt to nothing stuck to the magnet swarf wise am i still screwed:doh:

Changed my p38s gb oil soon after getting it as gear change was jerky and was rolling back on hill junctions. got 1.5 litres out and put over 5 back in, not suprisingly its much better now.........

They are refering to various threads about the p38 gearbox.

Poor souls have changed the gearbox oil in their new toy and and the detergent in the new oil loosens up all years of corruption which then travels around the box blocking ports and the like.....
The crud is all around the box which is why the filter doesn't stop it all.

There is nothing you can do really maybe pray to RangeRover Goddess and I hope you are one of the lucky ones:)

Dont forget most people are on this site because they have problems of one sort or another. :blabla:

:behindsofa:

is the zf box in the p38's the same as the disco 1's zf ive done nearly 3000 miles since the oil change and it seems to be ok at the moment
