Your opinions please

I would like to upgrade my 110's rear drum brakes to discs.I have a salisbury axle at the moment and intend to fit a disco axle. I know the salisbury is the better axle but I dont do any offroading but I do tow a couple of ton every now and then. I asume the disco axle is more than capable of doing this so am I doing the right thing?

would work ,youd need to mod prop ,fit 110 spring plates to axle ,but would ask insurance first ,you could get salis disc or convert yours

didnt think the disco axle had the correct strength?

James, assuming I keep my axle, what is the prosess of changing to discs and how much would parts be?
MHM, thats why im putting the question out there about strenght. I often see disco pulling horse box's and the like so assume they can handle it ok

I think its something to do with the max weight loading on a 110, but i aint a 110 speshulyst .

i take it that Disco discs and hubs wont fit on a Salisbury axle?

James very kindly provided me a full list just the other day to do exactly the same. I have ordered all new parts totalling £500 from LRDirect. Bear in mind I have not ordered the cheapest parts I.e. britpart own but Lockheed and timkin etc etc as want to do it once.. I intend to convert, weather permitting, in the next few days

In good order drum brakes work just as well as discs on the rear axle, is it worth it?

My back drums are knackered. I was going to replace the drums, the shoes, the cylinder and the worm gears etc. so I thought for a little extra I would go the whole hog and upgrade whilst they are in bits!

I know what your saying but if we all thought like like, we would all be driving round in bog standard motors In my unproffesional opinion, disc brakes are far superior to drums but like you said, is it worth the expense.

Thanks James for putting that list up for me. I've just read Saxmanuk's post who you also supplied the part numbers to and he's coming up with a bill for £500 ish which is sadly too much for me

you can get cheaper parts and some second hand from disco ,i think the last ones i did were £300 but bear in mind calipers normally need renewing with used axles

If you are towing heavy loads stick to the salisbury,you should be able to source some discs for it, better than converting a disco axle. All the best and let us know how you get on.
