To cut a very long story short.....

I have recently refurbished the valve block and replaced the air compressor and I thought that everything was ok. However, this morning I dropped it to access height and tried to raise it again but it was very slow.

I noticed that the compressor runs almost continuously. When it does stop there is a quick puff of air in the vicinity of the exhaust valve (I can't see exactly where the air is coming from) then the compressor starts up again and keeps going until the next puff of air. There doesn't seem to be a continuous leak, just a quick puff when the compressor stops.

Any ideas as to why this is happening would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance,

Jason

The puff of air from the exhaust is normal when full pressure is reached. As for the pump running continuously, either your replacement pump is secondhand and the seal is shot or you have a leak somewhere. Have you checked the airbags for leaks?

Thanks for your quick reply.

Yes the pump is second hand but has been refurbished and tested. I'm confident that the air bags are ok as they are fairly new and the car doesn't drop at all overnight.

Could it be faulty pressure switch?

The fact that the pump stops and you get the puff from the exhaust rules out the pressure switch in my opinion. If it stays up OK then I would still say worn pump seal. Have you checked the air intake filter? could be blocked and restricting airflow. Othewise check for leaks around theair reservoir tank underneath the car, could be a leak there meaning the pump has to fill the tank before the suspension will rise. Try dropping the car, then run the engine for 10 minutes with a door open, that freezes the suspension and will give the air tank time to fill, then get in, shut the door and select full height, it should rise fairly quickly using pressure from the tank. If it does, I would still suspect the pump or filter:D
