Hi im new to this site so be kind! :)

A few weeks ago my 1.8 xei blew its head gasket, fixed it myself with the uprated version.

Then bout 3 weeks later it was cutting out when warmed up, changed fuel pump and filter only to discover it was the temp coolant sensor, problem sorted.

Then a week ago it has develop a misfire.....still drivable at slow speeds but no revs when you put your foot down and sometimes has a problem starting? I have changed ht leads, plugs and cleaned dizzy cap on advice from a local dealer, which has improved it but the problem remains?????

Just ordered a new coil, dizzy cap and rotor but i have a feeling this wont solve it. I have thought of a can of petrol and a match but it really is a nice car when it works, and i cant afford to replace it so i really need it sorting, any advice is welcomed! oh and to make things worse its due an mot in 2 weeks so need it sorted asap........The joys of freelanders.....:(

I have a feeling your going to get some replys that involve some petrol and matches, just ignore them bullys !

lol

:behindsofa:

Will do mate, but on a worse note the rear window wont calibrate now after a battery change! will it ever end!

Iv had a problem with my window on my freelander lately. For some weired reason since i fitted some HID xenon headlights my rear window just goes down by itself when i turn on the lights lol

Whats the problem your having, will it just not raise itself fully or do you get a warning beep when the window is at the top ?

Cheers

I have just got a freelander 1.8 which has had a head gasket change, I have not been put off by the known issues as all the parts are readilly available and easy to fit. unlike the diesels if they go wrong big £££££ ie fuel pumps injectors etc.
When I got it home I gave it the once over and found the metal water pipe was leaking, so £53.00 later fixed easy.
I would check your spark plugs have the correct gaps and there is no water in the holes, from the gasket change!! check earth point etc.
Good luck.

1800 is pile of ****e, take that from a fully qualified mechanic and from someone who's mate owns a machine shop.

Good luck you'll need it

buy a diesel if you must buy a gaylander

Dont other land rover/range rovers suffer hgf too !!! oh yes p38 4.6 mmm common too maybee if there were as many 4.6 v8's as 1.8 k series there would be similar comments!

good luck with the v8

How much is a new block when the liners slip on the K-series?

Spark plugs are fine, new leads, new coil etc etc......aint had a comp test done yet but have been informed today that it could be the cat converter???? losing patience.......still mint in the snow though!

on some cars the ecu needs to relearn, once battery is disconected it reverts to failsafe settings and can cause the car to run a bit odd until it settles itself!! dont know if this applies to the freelander though.

Is it running fine when cold but more problematic when warmed up? if so it might be the IACV (idle air control valve) A friend had similar problems on his MGF (same engine) and we replaced the parts you mention, in the end it was the IACV. Sometimes you can remove and clean them - see if this helps before replacing.

No it runs the same...hot or cold, runs upto bout 40-45mph then misfire and no pulling power, back off the throttle and it runs fine again. Its got me and everyone who's looked at it baffled! Had an idea thrown at me today that it could be an air leak or air map sensor, sure these are built into the ecu on freelanders which would mean a new ecu and a trip into landrover for a remap and alarm set up again, sure to cost £££££££'s

Last time i had a misfire it was very wet weather and i'd been driving through the floods in Cork.

I took the spark plugs out, gave them all a wipe and checked their gappings. Then i poured a small amount of Redex into the bottle cap so i didn't use too much, then pour down each spark plug hole. Wait about ten minutes for it to dry out (will work better if the engine is warm first) then remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box under the steering column. Shove some old rags into the spark plug holes, and turn ur ignition all the way. She'll turn over but not start. Then i dipped the end of each spark plug in a bit of redex to get rid of any carbon ****e off em and put them all back in. Put each HT back on the plugs after spraying each one with a bit of GT85. Put the fuse back in, started her up and she's fooking perfect.

There'll probably be some peeps saying redex is **** or this won't work but it made my girl run damn smooth again.

Ive had mine since Nov last year. Had 3 Mg sports cars previously (same motor) and loved em!! Had to go for a SUV cos kids and dogs, but opted for a 'sportier' version. Spent a few quid on new head, revamped air intake, re-vamped exhaust etc. Still more fettling needed to make it 'mine', but i absolutely love it. Brill in the snow too!!
