Has anyone fitted a Defender snorkel to a Discovery, after seeing the ones in the RR section I think I prefer the look of the fender ones for a start and the price too!

Now I'm thinking along the lines of a 200 or 300tdi Safari system then modifying the air box line possibly moving the washer bottle to where the second battery would fit then fitting some bendy pipe to make the rest fit, if not I'll just stick to saving for a Discovery one

have you had a look at my thread on the snorkel air filter...as I too prefer that look, so after a bit of work, it should be that sort of look via the southdown snorkel parts list, so it goes into the wing next to the windscreen and pipes to the filter through the inner wing, so nothing exposed.

Might save you a bit of work moving the washer bottle etc....plus costs, as I reckon I will have managed to do it all for less than £50.00 (but that doesn't include the new filter setup I have just bought as my air box wasn't very water tight to say the least)

Southdown snorkels are in my opinion the better looking snorkels, less to bang off trees, stainless pipe up the screen and the rest tucked away inside, they are easy to fit, alot easier than trying to fit a 'fender snorkel...

Heres mine:

Yep its the Southdown for me as well, i got mine on fleabay as Southdown sell slight seconds on there, i got the wing & top section for under £35

1m of stainless pipe cost me £15 and the bit of fexi was a tenner :D

I got a safari but wish I went Southdown mor for looks though but then I am that vain :D

Thats what I did, £35 for the mouldings, I did get the southdown stainless as well as the bend helps things quite a bit, the flexi I used generic 3" convuluted twin skin pipe...

What he said! Much cheaper than safari. Win win:)

how did you go about the inside ? Through wing , airfilter , linkup ?

I have a 200 so has the steel round air box !!

So I cut the breather off welded over it and put Flexi pipe over hole with water proof silcone and d/clip !! Then silcone were water could get in haha

The fleix runs from bottom of pipe in the inner wing straight to the hole wer the air box is !!! Hope that helps ...!!

Anthony !

Thanks , it does.....but some piccies would be even better !

I feel that , as much as anything , LandyZone serves as an archive of fixes and info to be accessed as needed in the future , so the more info the better . Since the snorkel issue has come up at least a dozen times in my time on this forum , it must be something people want to know about . It seems to me that many of the systems on sale are grossly overpriced for what they are so the methods members have used to overcome the situation are interesting and valuable to us and others now and in the future .

Here here. There's two snorkel threads going that I've found, I'm preparing to have a go at making a freelander one if any one would be interested, a bit different to the norm, but it's top secret at the mo;) hopefully get started in the next month, plus I won't be asking questions about it cos it's soooo well documented you don't really need too anymore. To me it's just a case of, research, preparation, skill, patience and a ****load of common sense! In the past I've had and fitted, south down and safari also made and fitted a RR Classic one that was a tiny bit similar to a Mantec one. So from that I've learnt that they aren't that complicated but a lot of people can't accept that and the subject just goes on and on. So for my first thread I've no objection to showing how to do it with a bit of a difference on a vehicle everyone struggles to get them for! Worst case I'll look stupid, but hey I can take it:)

Well I've bought a second hand southdown for £45 + postage  no idea how I'm going to fit it sneakily…….

Anyone got a template ?

This is all if the seller doesn't back out which I rally hope he doesn't :)
