Still going through me new Disco seeing what's there and what isn't and just found that the sedimentor has been removed. I'm guesing that this is/was there as a pre-filter.

Is it worth getting a unit from a scrapper and fitting one or can I just change the fuel filter more frequently?

Ta folks

Most folks DO NOT take them off - they service them regularly and find them a useful feature.

They keep water and fuel tank crâp away freom the filter and engine.

Mines on but looks all crudded up so might just take it off, Defended aint got one :)

Hi - I drain the s**t & c**p out every 6000 miles, about 50cc each time! If any of that gets through to the injection pump it'll destroy it. Keep the sedimentor on and drain regularily, change main filter every 12000 miles and use a good quality one, pump fuel is very dirty. - OldDiscoMan

If the sedimentor is so necessary how come they didn't fit them to defenders? They're just a pain in the arse waiting to happen.

Its not necessary, but it saves having to change the fuel filter more often and is handy insurance against damage to the (delicate) fuel system internals. Other cars don't have them either, just have an in-tank pre filter and a normal fuel filter. So there's no desparate problem with not having one, IMHO. I have one but it was seized when I tried to empty/service it, I left well alone instead of risking breaking it and causing more hassle or expense. The car runs fine and I'm not particularly worried about it.
