My bloody sub in my back door is fooked. The speakers have come unattached from the outside bit so they make a horrid noise.

Basically can i found a replacement unit, but they are like 40 notes, second hand. Bit steep i though. I have seen two brand new speakers on interweb for £12. They are same size etc. Would these work if i installed them into the pod unit? Would they sound correct?

I currently have the Harmon/Kadon sysetm in. I know its cheaping out, but it anoys me paying lots of cash for bloody speakers. WHY DIDN'T THYE MAKE THEY PROPERLY AT THE START!!!!!!

Cheers

More details on the speakers is required, not all speakers are the same.

Try and get the genuine thing pt no. STC947 thats the speaker assembly, not the amp. and it's a D1 part no. as u don't say what disco u have.

Its a TD5. I know its not the amp thats fooked, its the rear door speaker pod. I know its meant to be a sub, but doent the amp send the mid and bass to those speakers, so if the speakers take the mid and bass, shouldnt they work. The speakers are full range, so surely they should just produce the sound that the amp is sending them.

I may be completly wrong, so please do tell me if i am. I would obviously get the original part, but ebay is around £40 delivered second hand and LR would be alot more i guess.

If you can just change the cones over, then you can get cheap sub cones, if it is a dedicated subwoofer in the back door then you need to put subwoofers back in as the amp will send only the bass and sub-bass to the speakers all other frequencies will be filtered out and the bass will be amplified especially the lower frequencies which full range speakers might not handle for very long

yeah they just unscrew from the unit. This might be a stuid question, but how do you know what sort they are EG dedicated subwoofers etc. They just look like normal cones to me.

As Sorcy says, also I would take the speaker pod into a car hi-fi shop (not Halfords) and see what they have that will fit, they are only small loudspeakers and don't have to be that sophisticated to handle the bass.

You may be right and some mid range also comes out of the door speaker as well as bass.
Thats why I have a 'sub in a box' sitting on the boot floor and use the door sub only when I need the boot space.

their is a bass amplifier on the back of the speakers i believe but other than that they are 4ohm speakers... you could probably even get better ones as these don;t seem to handle very bassy music....

you should be able to tell by what frequency response is written on the back of them (presuming they have it written on the back) it will be like:
Frequency Response 20Hz - 6 kHz (subwoofer frequencies)
Frequency Response: 50Hz - 18Khz (full range frequencies)
Also make sure you get the same impedence speakers too (measured in ohms like 4 ohm or 8ohm)

typically there is fook all written on them, so no help there. They just look like normal speakers to me, no amp etc.

After closer inspection, it looks like as well as the scews, bloody LR have used some sort of glue or resin to keep them in place.

Bloody typical, looks like i will be going for a whole new unit now then. Thanks for all the info anyways
