Time has come for the Series III to go!

I'm too tall to drive it comfortably and the defender's been reliable since I brought it a couple of months ago, so it's time I get rid of my Series III

any idea what I should ask/expect to get for it?

it's an ex BT 1982 2.25 petrol SWB Station wagon (with the safari roof), body is surprisingly straight! had a half chassis at some point in it's recent past, think the mileage is around 80k but I'd have to check!

Originally yellow but has been painted blue before I got it

I've stripped 99.9% of the body off of it, cleaned, replaced and painted anything needed on the chassis + Bulkhead.. re-wired it, services it about 50 miles ago (so 2 months ago!).. new brake linings were put on also

Bad points: Gearbox! looks perfectly and goes into gear smoothly.. but HOLY CRAP is it loud! could do with a rebuild/replacement ideally!

no MOT as it ran out last month.. but still got a couple of months TAX IIRC

now... I know the drivers side dumb iron needs a patch or replacement for the MOT

time is very tight really for me at the moment so ideally looking to just get rid of the old girl!

it owes me £800.. think I'd get that for it as it stands? as someone knowing what they're looking at will be able to see what work has taken place!

obviously pics would help but I don't have any on the pc at the mo

views/opinions please guys

Cant really tell without looking but 800 quid sounds a bit over the top for a non drive away and a knacked box, I suspect you might have to knock a couple of hundred off that.

No MOT, needs welding, needs gearbox sorting, no doubt there will be plenty more that a potential buyer will find that he's not happy with. I reckon you're looking at 300 quid.

Mines a similar spec with only minor troubles and I paid 600, and thats only because the bloke lent me his disco so I could tow it back to mine on a trailer, I have receipts for bits and work done for over 600 too, and I think that was a little ott, but the mrs liked it.

yeah I kind of figured I was being optimistic

makes sense for me to put a bit of effort in, sort the remaining bits n welding and get a ticket on it
