Yes, they were all torqued up the same, with the impact gun on full torque (1000Nm). I agree that it is the side more likely to undo due to inertia. I have now tightened them up even more, with a bar. Will threadlock them on when I have replaced the disc.

What size bar did ya use to get more than 1000nm on the nuts?:rolleyes::eek:

I'm surprised you didn't snap the studs off. My truck wheel nuts are only 250nm.:p

Exactly what i said ratty what thread you got on your N/S wheel nuts matey? 1000nm **** i'de love to see him attempt that:doh:

Just had another think about this and it's not the side more likely to undo via inertia, it's always the right hand side.... that's why many vans and ALL lorries have left hand threads on the offside wheel nuts.

We must have special build trucks at work then. None of out Iveco's, Renaults or mercs that I've worked on have left hand threads on the offside. The mitsu****tys do though.

Yep i know how that feels been doing some long ones myself last couple of weeks does fook your grey matter after a while :D

Yep. During the summer hols we expect to be busy at morning and evening rush hours, weekends and when the weather is nice. At the moment we're busy from late afternoon until pretty much midnight everyday regardless of weather conditions.

I only did 8 jobs last night but covered over 200 miles just getting to and from them. I was zig-zagging all over the place. The night before I did 9 jobs in the first 5 1/2 hours of my shift.

I dunno what's going on but in the 13 years I've been doing the job I've never known it consistantly this busy at night during the week at school holiday time.

Peeps not maintaining there motors properly is probably the main cause, i run my own garage and peeps just can't afford to maintain there cars properly, im finding they are doing the minimum to keep them going which they get away with when only driving localy but, they then try and 300+miles in one go and the car just ain't upto it.

It seems that even the basics of checking oil, water, tyres etc has been forgotten these days. If I ask a customer when they last checked their oil and water I either get told 'I don't do it' or 'it got serviced a year ago and the garage checked it then':eek::eek:.

It's not uncommon for me to come across cars that haven't been serviced for 3 or more years too. I can understand someone going a month or two over the service schedule but some people just don't bother full stop.

Your supposed to be an engineer  so you tighten wheel nuts that should be done up to 130nm to (your words not mine) as tight as my 1000nm air gun would do them and then tightened them some more with a bar, yer right course you did.
Have you any idea how tight 1000nm or even 500nm as you now THINK your gun is actualy putting out actually is, i very much doubt you do.
And while were on the subject of air guns what make and model is yours and how old is it?
Are you sure your not mixing up undoing torque with doing up torque cos all the guns i have the doing up torque is lower than the undoing torque.

No, I did them with the air gun when I originally fitted the spacers a few months back, as I fitted them at my mates garage and it's his airgun. I tightened them with my electric buzz gun after the wheel had come off last week (which is still supposed to be 441Nm max torque) and then further tightened them with a 3/4 1250mm breaker bar.

And I am confusing undoing torque with doing up torque. But the tightening torque can't be less than 130Nm if the undoing torue is 1000Nm???

Rich....

If Landrover specify a torque setting, why dont you use their value to torque stuff
Why dont you use a torque bar?

I assume ur calling me chris?

I didn't know the torque setting for the wheel nuts until yesterday, i'd assumed they'd b a hell of a lot more than 130Nm. It doesn't seem enough.

oops - yeah
Why do yu think you know better thatn LR & why not use a torque wrench?
and if yu think 130Nm is not enuf, what makes your think that >1000Nm  is the correct value?

Torque = force x distance.

90kg (my weight) x 9.8 to convert to newtons = 882N x 1.25m (length of a 1250mm breaker bar) = 1102.5Nm or torque.

I fitted alloy wheel spacers (30mm) and slightly bigger offset wheels to my brothers fender 18months to 2 years ago, he does quite a lot off off roading and it's his wifes daily driver and his spacers nor his wheels have ever come loose, you must have done something wrong or there is something wrong with your disco.
Possibly over tightening? stretched studs possibly what are the spacers made of.

I didn't think 1000Nm was correct value, I just buzzed it up til it stopped and thought... that'll be tight enough.

They are ali spacers. It is possible that the studs have been stretched.
