Hello new here, had a Disco 1 for a few months, as time has gone on starting has become quite intermittent.

Sometimes I will turn the key and nothing happens, won't turn over. It will turn over if I leave it in park, rock it back and forth a bit, then the starter engages and it will turn over and fire up no problem. The issue is just getting it to turn over.

I bought a second hand starter off ebay and fitted it last night but still having the same issue (let me down in a petrol station last night which was embarrassing!).

I'm not sure if I have bought another faulty starter, or if the fault is something else entirely? Any ideas?

Done a bit of searching but cant find any threads with same issue...

Thanks in advance to anybody who can assist me!

Hi Muddy, just to let you know, the normal protocol on this forum is to go to the "Introduce yourself" and well introduce yourself.

However down to your problem, have you tried starting the car in N rather than P?

I've had this problem but mines a manual, turn the key sometimes a two sec delay and sometimes nothing give it a rock in gear and it fires up.

Very, very often this kind of problem is solved by replacing just the starter motor solenoid. There are repair kits on Ebay for about a tenner.

Firstly, a big thank you

I finally got up to the barn to try this and your spot on! It starts in neutral every time but won't start in park. Tried it several times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

As it's okay in neutral, should I replace this neutral safety switch so it works in park also?

Are they hard to change, google hasn't brought up any useful info on them?

Also, can't find any for sale for a Disco 1, found a few for Disco 2's at about £400 quid which is scary!

Thank you! Roughly where is it located, is it connected to the selector or the box itself, ie is it accessed from inside or from below?

Thanks again
