I've got a pair of hella spotlights about 5 inches in diameter that i'm planning to bolt on the front bumper, I would like to wire them so that they come on with full beam and off with dipped but also have a seperate switch on the dash to switch them off totally. I'm a retard when it comes to wiring so where do i need to run wires too and from? My loom is a bit gammy so would it be a good idea to run power them off the battery or splice them into the loom and stick a relay in?

Many thanks, Harry

There's quite a few diagrams around..

On my disco I had a 3 way switch (always on/ always off / on with main beam)

you'll need to get a relay too.. and the 3 way switch.

you get the main power from the battery, and the power to get it to switch on and off with the main beam you get it from the back of the fuse box, off the main beam fuse...

do you know anything about electrics at all? like how to use a multimeter to check where the power is and when its coming on and off?

There was a thread that I started i think a year ago, that had loads of info, ill try and get it for you...

Hi Harry,
That's exactly how I have mine set up. You need a relay and a fused feed from the battery. I took the feed to switch the relay on from the wire running up to the stalk on the steering column - I just followed it back into the dash where I cut it and soldered the feed wire in.
The power to the spotlights then comes (via a fuse!) from the battery to the relay, and from the relay to the spots.
Once you get your head around one of the very many wiring diagrams around, you'll have it done in no-time.

Ian.
