New spotlights, new wiring relay etc. Triggered from main beam wire at headlight, earthed correctly and with 20a in line fuse into relay. Flashed once now will not play no matter what anglosaxon words I try!
Headlamps are fine, no switch to isolate lamps - what obvious thing have I missed?!!!!
Muppetry beckons.....

Fuse is OK, relay brand new - no guarantee it works I guess!

isolate the new lights and check it still clicks when mains are on - then see if you have continuity across the contacts that feed the new lights, if you do check you also get 12v on both sides of the contacts when mains are on

How have you made the connection into the main beam circuit?

If you have used one of those 'scotch lock' things (blue thing you put both wires into and then clamp the cover over) then ther are prone to failure as depending on the wire thickness they dont cut the through the insulation properly, and then stop working as the tiny bit of contact they are making fails.

As per Sean - best thing to do to see if it is the relay trigering side or the lamp side of the two circuits, or the relay -is to have somebody flick the main beam on and have a listen to the relay to see if it makes a click. If it does not then either the connection to the main beam circuit (as long as the main beam is still working) or the relay. Simple to check with a volt meter accross between the relay trigering +ve and the earth.

Aha! 'tis fixed!

While relay was clicking (feed from h/light was sound) I had no +VE, traced back to the battery and found hidden loop with a 10a inline fuse. Et Voila! Relay fused at 20a = pop!
All very illuminating.....!

Thanks for the thoughts!
