I had a similar problem, except I was driving at the time so i was able to jump out with the fire extinguisher and limit the damage.
I drive a series 2a, and was quoted £900 by a garage, because it was 3 days labour to fit the new loom!
I am very impressed with the loom I bought from Autosparks for £200 (inc VAT). I ordered via the phone and they told me what info I needed to find out so they could supply the right loom.
I'm fitting it myself. This weekend will be my 4th and hopefully last weekend working on it. I got diagrams from the internet (From this forum I think). Autosparks have the colour codes on their website.
I have a friend who has built a kit cars and knows about wiring to check it over before I start her up again!

... Oh! And I claimed on my insurance. The cause was wear and tear, but they gave me a cash in lieu settlement for the resultant damage, which covered the cost of the loom. It might be worth considering.
