hee hee.

It depends on whether yu want to do the job properly, bodge it, leave it or pay someone to do it for yu. If its all standard - just buy new looms and replace - if its all speshul - then I can help - but I aint cheap - as Yella will verify - but I is good.

****, Not a gd idea then :(

Do I have to rip it all out and do it again?
it would certainly be a good to start from fresh, that was the way that yellas was done (on removing the old harness there where 2 points on it that would have caused a fire in the future)

So, is this the part I want;

Part Details

Does it cover everything on the vehicle, (lighting?, heater?)

Seems better just to buy the cable and make on to me!
Just priced up buying all the bits and should be about £50

nope - I believe there is a Main loom, Engine loom and Chassis loom.

Landrover >> Series 3 >> Main, Engine & Chassis Harnesses

Main Engine Bay Harness - £139.92

Engine Harness RHD & LHD - £34.45

Chassis Harness RHD & LHD - £49.29

But.......... I am quite sure it not be a mess. And as fe know fook all about:rolleyes: :eek:

I have been doing some reading since last night. I didn't realise singles were so cheap (21p or 26p per meter:D ) so guess I will be using singles after all (Be cheaper o/all).

would thin wall be ok for most application. The blerb says it is more efficent than standard wires. I Also read 0.3mm copper strands are the standard for automotive applications. But this is not available in all the standard (Lucas) colours. Is there a get around for this or do I get standard wires?

One thing I seem to find the answer to is do I require 300amp or 415amp cable for the battery cables? (2 1/4 petrol swb)

Just priced up the total cost, of all the wire (using "Auto Sparks" only 19p per meter on thinwall 14.5amp!) and guessing roughly how much of each colour you need, (as obviously some goes between a few gauges, and some goes to all the lights, so the amounts are quite different) And using some slightly thicker cable for Main Beam etc.

They total out at about £40, not including all the bullet/Spade connectors, and looming tape. Will work out this cost soon and post back!

Btw, Autosparks seem pretty gd for cable, havent looked at other stuff, but v.slightly cheaper than Vehicle Wiring Products.

Autosparks also sell the looms, but nearly £200 for the full set!

Yes thats all included, ive used thicker wire for all the high current stuff.
Actually, to get all the colours+tracer colours that would be needed, I had to get a slightly thicker cable through out, costing 0.21p per meter. Meaning the overall cost including terminals (100-200) and some looming tape, is about £60-£65. Not bad for a whole loom!

Will try and attach a copy of the spredsheet I did to the forum, so you can have a look.

That would be great thanks.:D

Looks like I have only got to do the front, I have some high temp 2.5mm 4 core in my shed that is more than adequate for the rear lights. Will wrap it in looming tape tho;)

There we go, table should be attached as JPEG.

Hope its not too bad!

Hope it helps,

Biosbill

dont know if its the best way of doing it, but I couldnt find anything official on the net. So;

Just sat down with my Haynes, and thought about each component, where it is, where it goes to, and how much cable I think it should need. I over estimated by about 1mtr, just so when I order it im not short of anything!

Oh, and I just ordered 50 of the earth, as I guess ill need a lot!

having done a few of these now, but having never thought to take a note of how much i used, i'd say you're about 50% under with your estimates of lengths - you should be ok with your blk length - just

Do you think?

Im quite suprised? My estimates of a Mtr might be a bit of, but for example cant see me needing more than 1mtr of BR to connect lights in the dash?

Thanks for your help

Seems good, But I would go larger on N. Your alernator I guess has an output of 65ish amps.

Could anyone advise on the size of cable required here?

(But will add a bit to each of the lengths)

Did think my HLamps might need a bit more.

Updated spredsheet, looks like;

84/0.30mm, 6mm2, 50amp - Typical applications. Charging cable for dynamo, alternator and ammeter circuits. But use two lengths - ie double up on the wires - yu mite want a high output alternator at some time.
