Hello,

I don't know if anyone can help me but i own a disco 2003 td5 and for the last six months it has been driving fine but had the odd jerk after gear changes. It still drives but just the last few days it intenseified and the jerks become more regular. I thought it was the fuel filter so i changed that but no difference. After that the fuel filter warning light came on the dash. So i emptyed the water trap but this still made no differnce. I then looked it up on the internet and someone suggested the wiring loom or the injectors. So i took out the wiring loom and cleaned it out with petrol, put it back in but it has made no differance. Do the new wiring looms seal to prevend oil from getting in? Am i on the right problem?

Did u check the ECU too? ...i mean where the injector's loom is connected

We did look at the conection point and gave it a clean. Do you mean the conection point? Or further back down the wire?

i mean to be sure that it didnt ingress oil inside the ECU through the wiring loom at the connector.......this is the common fault

Iain88. Read my post on here titled "Oil where the headlight lives". I have oil wicking along loom to the ECU. Some good advice on there.

You need to check the red plug and socket on the main ECU for oil.

Take out the ECU (after removing the battery neg lead for safety) and stand it on it's end, on some kitchen towel.

Clean out the red plug with clutch and brake cleaner.

Well we checked the ecu plugs and it would appear that the oil has not reach that far. So we have ordered a new wire loom and it should come tomorrow but once that is in will the jerking improve straight away? Also will i need to set any codes or anything after that do you know? cheers

When you say new loom, do you mean engine loom? I'm asking as i have this problem with oil in the loom, but car is running perfect, and it has reached the ECU. I'm thinking of changing injector harness as this apparently has improved seals. Then just keep cleaning ends of original loom and it should eventualy come good. I hope.

Hi Ian, if there was no oil apparent at the ECU end of the cabling it is unlikely that your engine misfire is being caused the famous "oil in injector loom" scenario. So it is unlikely to be cured by fitting a new one.

You would be best to have you problem effectively diagnosed by connecting it to an electronic diagnosis machine to identify where the problem lies.

If you go to:www.discovery2.co.uk/ Nanocom Locator, get help from your Land Rover Buddies!!! you will find a list of people who have such equipment and are prepared to share it.

Good luck

Dave
