Wipers wont budge. Do move if I assist with a gentle push but generally not functioning.

The fuse is OK, what do I check first, switch, motor, gears?

Did fully grease up the worm last year so cant be ceased.

Any advise much appreciated.

Merry Christmas.

Spindles out to wipers can get stiff so can the shaft in the motor for the worm drive gear. Also check connector block to unit for corrosion.

Simple enough to get the cover off, disconnect the wiper drive and try running the motor. You should also be able to move the wipers by pulling the drive spring, although it will be stiff.

On mine the flexible shaft (that goes to the spindles)is held in place on the gear wheel with a circlip.

The worm is on the motor shaft.

Have you checked the earth to the motor body is good?

Does the motor turn?

Have you tried a few drops of oil on the outside of the spindles?

motor is very hot and not turning (i think)

Where is the circlip?

Im assuming the motor is removable without the shaft attached?

If you remove the clamp which hold the motor in place, you will see a number of screws (4 or 6 IIRC) fastening a flat-ish plate in place.

Once that is off you will see the big wheel which is turned by the motor worm, upon which is the link for the flexible cable which operates the wiper spindles. This is held in place by a circlip.

If you remove the cable the big wheel should pull off quite easily.

Check that the spindle cable runs freely by hand (flick the wipers out to reduce the resistance as you are doing this by hand!)

Make sure that the motor body has a good earth and then try running the motor.

If it runs OK, check that the big wheel has plenty of siloicone grease or copperslip on it and reassemble.

Let me know how you get on.

great help thanks. motor now out. have a new one to fit.

How do i get the worm position correct in relation to the gear and the push arm?

I have turned the worm cable as well as pushed it to check its free, it is.

Dont think ive turned it back to its original position.

The easiest way that I've found is to take the wiper arms off, stick everything back together again and remount the motor assebly ensuring that you have a good earth.

Turn the wipers on and off so that the motor parks, then refit the arms in their park position.

Done that and it vaguely works! Needs some fine adjustment I think.

Another stupid question, were is the relay located? Its not in front of the gear stick or under the seat, its 2004 110!

Through the early months of 2014 I was engaged in all out war on my wipers in the quest for reliability. Over a period of time, I replaced switch, motor and spindles that go through the bulkhead. Things improved dramatically when I replaced the relay (well, people call it a relay but it's more than that, as there's a printed circuit board inside). As a 2006 model, mine was behind the instrument panel. The old one came to pieces in my hand and a new Lucas item improved matters considerably.
