Hi all

I fitted a brand new set of wipac 8" spot lights to my A bar week before last, the previous owner to my defender had obviously had spot lights in before as he has left all the wiring there. So I linked my spots up to it and it all works. The cables are wired to the high beam back to a relay and to the alternator for power, he has also got a short bit of cable with two spade connectors and connected it to too connections on the relay.

But when I flash or turn full beam on then off the spot lights stay on and the only way to turn them off is to turn my lights off all together and then back on to dipped beam. Can become very annoying when I flash someone and they then stay on.

They only stay on when my lights are on, if all my lights are switched off and I flash they work fine, they just flash on and off. When I first connected them they seemed to do what they liked, one minute they would flash on and off and go on to full beam and off. Then they would flash and stay on. Could it be a dodgy relay?

Also I have seem a lot of landrover driving around with spot lights on low beam, can mine do that if I get duel filament bulbs?

Cheers

Alex

I would be interested in the dual filament thing if it works, I think it is doable actually as my relay has 5 spade connectors and one is on when I flash whereas the other is always on with the lights. Don't use the other one though, they are just for full beam.

But it does sound like your relay. The wiring for spots is pretty simple. On a standard relay there should be a connection for the spots, one for a feed from the full beam, one for battery negative and a fused one for battery positive. That's pretty much it

They have to be angled to use all time i believe, sounds like bad wiring to me as if it was a dud relay they would be on all time or off and turning all lights off to get the relay shut seems like iffy wiring to me

Dodgy relay or a bad earth wire from the spade on the relay, I have had one stick on before until you wiggle the earth and then the relay will click off.
